Week-long celebrations to feature health camps, blood donation drives, awareness campaigns and continuing medical education programmes until July 23

Recognising the indispensable contribution of medical laboratory professionals to the nation’s healthcare system, the National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week commenced across the country on July 17 under the banner of the Indian Confederation of Medical Laboratory Science (ICMLS). The observance will continue until July 23 in major healthcare institutions, including ESIC hospitals, Railways, CGHS, AIIMS, PGI, JIPMER, and several Central and State Government hospitals.


Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Sarkania, Medical Laboratory Technologist at ESIC, said the week is celebrated every year to commemorate the restructuring of the Medical Laboratory Professionals Cadre by the Government of India on July 17, 2015. The initiative aims to recognise the dedication, professional excellence and vital contribution of laboratory professionals in ensuring accurate diagnosis, quality patient care and effective clinical decision-making.


He emphasised that laboratory professionals form the backbone of modern healthcare, as physicians rely extensively on laboratory reports for diagnosis and treatment planning. Their expertise plays a decisive role in the early detection of diseases and in improving patient outcomes.


A series of programmes have been planned during the week, including free health check-up camps, public awareness campaigns, Continuing Medical Education (CME) lectures, voluntary blood donation drives, organ and eye donation awareness activities, tree plantation initiatives, and biomedical waste management programmes.


The celebrations began at ESIC Hospital, Okhla, with a cake-cutting ceremony marking the 11th anniversary of the cadre restructuring. The event was attended by Dr. Kamin Mayong (Head of Department), Dr. Kamaluddin Gauhar, Dr. Krishna Sudha, Medical Laboratory Technologists Sunita Sharma, Suresh Yadav, Anita, and several other laboratory professionals. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to delivering high-quality diagnostic services and strengthening patient care through excellence in laboratory medicine.
