In a significant step towards strengthening public healthcare infrastructure in the national capital, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to equip its hospitals with advanced diagnostic technology. As part of its hospital modernization drive, the civic body will soon introduce Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computed Tomography (CT) Scan facilities in three of its major hospitals, marking a major milestone in improving affordable and accessible healthcare services.

According to official sources, the first phase of the project will cover Swami Dayanand Hospital in Dilshad Garden, Hindu Rao Hospital, and Rajan Babu TB Hospital at Kingsway Camp. Once operational, these advanced imaging services will enable thousands of patients to undergo high-quality diagnostic tests within the MCD healthcare system, reducing their dependence on expensive private diagnostic centres.


Modern Technology to Strengthen Public Hospitals
The initiative forms part of MCD’s broader strategy to modernize its healthcare infrastructure by upgrading medical equipment and expanding specialized healthcare services. The availability of MRI and CT Scan facilities is expected to significantly improve the early detection and diagnosis of complex diseases, allowing doctors to provide timely and more effective treatment.


Medical experts believe that advanced imaging technologies are essential for diagnosing neurological disorders, spinal injuries, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, internal trauma, vascular conditions, and several other critical illnesses with greater accuracy.


Swami Dayanand Hospital to Benefit East Delhi Residents
The decision is expected to provide major relief to residents of East Delhi. Swami Dayanand Hospital, one of the region’s key government healthcare institutions, will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities. Patients from Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Seemapuri, Nand Nagri, Vivek Vihar, and adjoining localities will have access to advanced imaging services closer to home, saving both time and treatment costs while ensuring faster diagnosis in emergency cases.


Affordable Healthcare for Economically Weaker Sections
The introduction of MRI and CT Scan services at MCD hospitals is expected to particularly benefit economically weaker and middle-income families. Diagnostic imaging at private hospitals often costs several thousand rupees, placing a heavy financial burden on patients. With these services becoming available in MCD hospitals at government-approved rates, quality diagnostics will become significantly more affordable. Beneficiaries of the Ayushman Bharat scheme and other government healthcare programmes are also expected to benefit.


MCD Focuses on Expanding Healthcare Infrastructure
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has been steadily investing in strengthening hospital infrastructure, upgrading medical equipment, expanding specialist services, and improving patient care. The addition of high-end diagnostic facilities represents another important step toward transforming MCD hospitals into modern healthcare institutions capable of delivering comprehensive medical services.


More MCD Hospitals to Be Upgraded in Phases
A senior official associated with the project said that the civic body plans to gradually extend advanced diagnostic services and modern medical technologies to most MCD hospitals across the city. The long-term objective is to ensure that every citizen has access to quality healthcare and advanced diagnostic facilities at their nearest government hospital.


Healthcare experts have welcomed the initiative, noting that timely and accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective treatment. The expansion of MRI and CT Scan services across MCD hospitals is expected to significantly strengthen Delhi’s public healthcare system and enhance public confidence in government medical institutions. If the modernization programme continues at its current pace, MCD hospitals are likely to emerge as some of the capital’s most technologically advanced public healthcare centres in the coming years.
