Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that due to the deliberate shadow boxing between the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP by raising illogical objections, the elections of the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the Standming Committee members have not been held though over two months have elapsed since the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) election results were declared on December 7, 2022, giving the Aam Aadmi Party a clear majority of 134 seats out of the total 250-seat Civic body, with BJP getting 104 and Congress 9. He said that the impasse on the Mayoral election was a betrayal on the voters of Delhi, who gave a winning mandate to the Aam Aadmi Party, but the AAP has chickened out from taking charge of the Civic body, as Kejriwal’s party understands well that it would not be able to fulfill any of its election promises, as Kejriwal had failed to honour any of the promises he made to Delhiites for the past 8 years.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that despite having a comfortable majority for the AAP in the MCD to elect its own candidates for the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee members, Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP, in collusion with the BJP Councillors, disrupted the MCD sessions thrice, to stall the Mayoral elections, to scuttle a Constitutional process, as the Mayor should have been elected in the very first session of the MCD House, and the Councillors would have to declare their assets before the Mayor within 30 days of swearing-in, or face disqualification.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that both AAP and BJP were not interested to get an elected body in power at the MCD, as both these parties had made lofty promises in their manifestoes, which they now find it impossible to fulfill, like eradicating water and air pollution, clearing the three land fill mountains etc. and the blame can be passed on officials who run the MCD affairs now, in the absence of a Mayor.
