Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ch Anil Kumar said that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal were celebrating “Azadi Ki Amrit Kaal”, poor people were being rendered homeless with the Delhi Development Authority carrying out extensive demolition of shanties and flats in Mehrauli despite a court order against demolition. Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was inhuman and illegal to demolish the JJ Clusters and flats without providing alternate accommodation, which was the stated policy of the Congress Government, which started the in-situ construction of flats to relocate residents of JJ clusters in the Kalkaji Extension for constructing over 8000 flats in 2013.

Ch. Anil Kumar demanded the immediate intervention of the Lt.Governor and the Union Urban Development Minister to stop the demolition drive in Mehrauli as the drive has already displaced many families from their homes.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that when nearly 60,000 flats constructed under the Rajiv Rattan Awaz Yojna remain unallotted in Delhi, the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party Governments have conspired to render poor people homeless in Mehrauli. He said that the flats demolished in Mehrauli had clearance from all the Government agencies, including the Revenue Department and Fire Service, for installation of lifts, and the residents were paying house taxes and electricity bills as well. Ch Anil Kumar said that if the DDA and Delhi Government officials indulged in corruption, why penalise the residents who invested their life’s savings in the flats. He said that  the Kejriwal Government was now shedding crocodile tears for the poor after uprooting them.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that just before the MCD elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave the keys to five families at a symbolic ceremony for the allotment of 3024 in-situ flats constructed at Kalkaji Extension by the Congress Government. He said that the BJP had also promised in its MCD election manifesto that it would provide in-situ flats to all residents of JJ clusters but after losing the Corporation elections, BJP has been acting against the poor with a vengeance while the Kejriwal Government has been anti-poor always as it has not yet alloted the flats constructed in various parts of Delhi for the poor and these flats have now become dilapidated and a refuge for anti-social elements.
