However, his fans were quite disappointed when his name went missing from the list of Padma awardees. Seeing Sonu helping amidst the complexities of Covid, there was full confidence that the government would not only notice him but would also bestow him with the Padma Shri. However, when President Ram Nath Kovind honoured the Padma awardees of the year 2020, it was surprising Sonu’s name was not on the list.

It is to be known that President Ram Nath Kovind honoured 119 people with Padma awards held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. These include 7 Padma Vibhushan, 10 Padma Bhushan and 102 Padma Shri. The names of Kangana Ranaut, Adnan Sami, Ekta Kapoor and Karan Johar were also included in this list.

Sonu has been questioned about the award and he has given an answer which has put an end to all kinds of debate.

Keep in mind that Sonu’s reaction to the Padma awards was also important because whether it is general or special, the whole country expected that no one should get the Padma award for the year 2020, but actor Sonu Sood will get it for his excellent services in social work.

On 5 August 2020, he helped 101 medical students, predominantly from Tamil Nadu, who were stranded in Moscow during the lockdown, reach Chennai safely on a chartered flight arranged by him after they contacted his team for help. On his birthday he launched a website and app called Pravasi Rojgar to help migrant workers find suitable jobs amid the pandemic. On 19 February 2021, Sood launched an initiative ‘Ilaaj India’ platform to provide healthcare services for needy people. In December 2020 he published I Am No Messiah, an autobiographical book, narrating his journey to becoming an actor, and narrating his social work during the pandemic.

In 2021, Sood provided much-needed oxygen plants and cylinders for COVID-19 patients in India.[47] Sood and Kumar Vishwas have supported the Aao Gaon Bachayein (“Save the Villages”) campaign started by comic poet and satirist Pankaj Prasun.
