Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Bhalswa landfill fire, on the heels of four major fires at the Ghazipur landfill in April alone, has created a dangerous situation as it has not only spiked the air pollution, but also poses grave health hazard to the people, not only in an around the area but also the whole of Delhi, as neither the Arvind Government, nor the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi, seems to be concerned about these recurring fires.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that due to the indifference of the MCDs and the Arvind Government, landfill fires have become common occurrence, but strangely, Arvind is keeping mum about the rising air pollution in Delhi, which is compounded by the stubble fires in Punjab about which Arvind has become tongue-tied now. He said that Arvind should also tutor the Punjab Government about the “Delhi model of pollution control”, which will then expose yet another of his fake models before the people.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the BJP-ruled MCDs and the Arvind Government’s environment department have spent crores of rupees for reducing the mountains of garbage at the three landfill sites in Delhi—Bhalswa, Ghazipur and Okhla—but the height of the landfills have only risen, and not reduced, as both these parties are incapable of taking effective steps to dispose off the landfill wastes to eliminate grave health and environmental hazards to the people.
