Ex-MLA and former Parliamentary Secretary to the Chief Minister, Shri Anil Bhardwaj, said that power-drunk Modi Government at the Centre and the Yogi Adityanath Government in Uttar Pradesh have blatantly violated all democratic norms to detain Congress leader Smt. Priyanka Gandhi for over 30 hours to prevent her from visiting the family members of the farmers who were murdered at Lakhimpur Kheri by BJP goons.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Shri Anil Bhardwaj said that it was condemnable that Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled States, Punjab and Chhattisgarh, were also prevented from visiting Lakhimpur Kheri, which was a gross violation of the rights of a citizen. “It is dangerous for democracy”, he warned.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhi Congress organized demonstrations at BJP offices in all the 14 districts today to protest against the murderous attacks on the farmers. He said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind was “Kissan Virodhi”, as his sympathy to the farmers’ cause was a mere play act, after validating the black anti-farmer laws, at a special session of the Delhi Assembly.

Shri Anil Bhardwaj said that CM Arvind had launched the “Kissan Mitra” scheme with much fanfare, but just six farmers benefitted from it, which exposed the hollowness of the whole process. He said that CM Arvind was anti-farmer, and all his actions were mere theatrics.

Shri Anil Bhardwaj said that CM Arvind has been harping on the “stubble burning” theme as the root cause of Delhi’s toxic air, as Delhi has become a virtual gas chamber due to pollution, but the burgeoning vehicular traffic and dust from broken roads and construction sites were major causes for 41% of air pollution in the Capital. He said that the Congress Government, under Smt. Sheila Dikshit, had made Delhi pollution free by introducing green fuel in public transport. He said that due to the deterioration of public transport, as DTC is operating with a skeleton fleet, more private vehicles are plying on the roads, adding to the pollution woes Delhiites. He said that CM Arvind had spent over Rs 16 crore for the publicity of Delhi’s failed bio-decomposer usage, as only Rs 40,000 worth of decomposers were distributed. He said that surprisingly, farmers have shown least interest in the bio-decomposer, as out of the 1500 farmers applied for it for the use in 1,935 acres of land, only 310 farmers actually availed it. He said that the number of farmers applied for the decomposer this year had shrunk to 844, though the land area has been increased to 4,200 acres. He said that the Arvind Government set up the smog towers with much fanfare, but their effectiveness and range are still being debated by the experts.

Shri Anil Bhardwaj said that the Arvind Government, learning lessons from the failed monsoon preparations and Covid-19 pandemic management, should implement an effective action plan to tackle if another wave of Corona pandemic strikes, as the past actions of the Delhi Government were not in the interest of Delhiites, who are still struggling to come out of the ravages caused by the Covid pandemic, with the Arvind Government providing them no succor.
