Top Performers Selected to Represent Shahdara at Delhi State Taekwondo Championship

New Delhi, August 3: The 13th Shahdara District Taekwondo Championship, organised by the Shahdara District Taekwondo Association in collaboration with the Delhi Taekwondo Association, concluded successfully at Ashoka Bhawan, Ashoka Niketan, on August 2. The championship witnessed the enthusiastic participation of nearly 200 athletes from across Shahdara and neighbouring areas, showcasing exceptional talent and competitive spirit.


The event featured exciting contests in the Sub-Junior, Cadet, Junior and Senior categories for both boys and girls, as well as men and women. Winners securing first, second and third positions were honoured with gold, silver and bronze medals, along with certificates of merit.


Organisers said the championship aimed to promote discipline, self-confidence, self-defence, physical fitness and sportsmanship among young athletes. Recognised as an Olympic sport, Taekwondo, which originated in South Korea, continues to play a significant role in the holistic development of youth by encouraging mental strength, agility and character building.


Vipin Gupta, Secretary of the Shahdara District Taekwondo Association, expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of the championship. He credited the smooth organisation of the event to the dedicated efforts of officials, technical staff and volunteers, adding that the outstanding performances reflected the growing sporting talent in the district.


The championship was attended by several distinguished guests, including Advocate D.K. Singh, Chairman, Council of Delhi; Harsh Priya Singh, General Secretary, Delhi Taekwondo Association; Amardeep Haldar, Technical Director; Dinesh Sharma, Treasurer; Dheeraj Goyal, Shivam, Bam Bahadur, Ali, Dr. Abha Mangal, Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Community Health at St. Stephen’s Hospital, Arun Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Rohit Sisodia, Prashant Singh and Dr. Rakesh Raman Jha, along with other sports officials and dignitaries.


Outstanding performers from the district championship have earned the opportunity to compete in the Delhi State Taekwondo Championship, scheduled to be held from September 1 to 3, 2026, at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. Organisers expressed confidence that Shahdara’s athletes would deliver an impressive performance at the state level and strengthen their prospects of qualifying for national competition
