Calls for Reservation Based on Economic and Social Status

Founder of Sandesh Foundation and social activist Advocate Surendra Singh has called for a comprehensive review of India’s reservation policy, asserting that affirmative action should be determined by a family’s actual economic and social conditions rather than caste identity.


Speaking on the issue, Singh said that if reservation benefits are to be extended, the eligibility of beneficiaries should be assessed through an impartial and detailed evaluation of their family’s financial, educational, and social background. According to him, a caste-based reservation system has the potential to deepen social divisions and foster discord among communities.


He further stated that India should consider appropriate legal reforms to establish a framework that guarantees equal access to quality education for every citizen, irrespective of economic background. Singh emphasized that educational opportunities should be based on the principle of equality and fairness.


Advocate Surendra Singh also urged policymakers to undertake periodic and comprehensive reviews of the reservation policy, ensuring that it remains aligned with national interest, social harmony, and the evolving socio-economic realities of the country.
