The stretch of GT Road between Jhilmil Metro Station and Dilshad Garden Metro Station has become increasingly congested due to unchecked traffic violations, causing inconvenience to commuters and raising serious road safety concerns.

One of the major issues is the growing nuisance of battery-operated rickshaws outside Jhilmil Metro Station. Instead of using designated pickup and drop-off points, many e-rickshaws stop haphazardly on the main carriageway while waiting for passengers. This narrows the available road space, disrupts the smooth flow of traffic, and creates bottlenecks during peak hours.

Another serious concern is wrong-side driving near the Zulfe Bengal Cut. Motorists, including some two-wheelers and e-rickshaws, frequently drive against the direction of traffic to save time or avoid taking legal U-turns. Such violations not only obstruct traffic but also expose pedestrians and law-abiding motorists to the risk of accidents.

Illegal parking along the roadside from Jhilmil Metro Station to Dilshad Garden Metro Station has further aggravated the situation. Vehicles parked indiscriminately occupy a significant portion of the carriageway, forcing moving traffic into fewer lanes and resulting in avoidable delays throughout the day.

Daily commuters, local residents, shopkeepers, and public transport users have repeatedly expressed concern over these persistent problems. They believe that regular enforcement against illegal parking, strict action against wrong-side driving, and proper regulation of battery rickshaw operations would substantially improve traffic conditions on this important corridor.

The authorities concerned—including the Delhi Traffic Police, civic agencies, and transport authorities—should undertake regular enforcement drives, ensure that designated parking and e-rickshaw stands are properly maintained, and impose penalties on habitual traffic violators. Installing clear traffic signage, lane markings, and physical barriers at vulnerable locations could also help discourage wrong-side driving.

GT Road is one of the busiest arterial roads in East Delhi. Effective traffic management and sustained enforcement are essential to ensure safer roads, smoother traffic movement, and greater convenience for the thousands of commuters who use this route every day.
