Goan startups participated in a session organised recently, to facilitate onboarding onto the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal. The session aimed to familiarise startups with the platform and its role in government procurement while enabling them to explore new avenues for business growth.
The online session was conducted by Ms. Dipti Choudhary, Assistant Manager – Social Inclusion, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and facilitated by the Startup & IT Promotion Cell (SITPC), Department of Information Technology, Electronics & Communication (DITE&C), Government of Goa. The initiative formed part of GeM’s nationwide outreach programme to encourage greater participation of DPIIT-recognized startups in public procurement.
The participation of Goan startups in the onboarding session aligns with the vision of Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Rohan A. Khaunte, to create greater market access opportunities for Goan startups and enable them to scale beyond traditional markets. By connecting startups with national platforms such as GeM, the Department continues to support innovation-driven enterprises, foster entrepreneurship and strengthen Goa’s startup ecosystem.
During the session, participants were introduced to the GeM portal, including its registration process, eligibility criteria, product and service listing, and the procurement process. The session also highlighted the opportunities available for startups to supply goods and services to government organisations.
Sharing her experience, Mrs. Anagha Matondkar, Co-founder, Riddleme Solutions, said, “The GeM onboarding session gave me a clearer understanding of how government procurement operates, including registration, product listing, and participation in tenders. It helped me see that GeM offers a transparent and efficient way for startups to connect with government buyers. For my startup, the platform can provide wider market access, stronger credibility, and new sales opportunities with public-sector organizations.”
GeM is the Government of India’s digital public procurement platform that enables government departments, ministries, public sector undertakings and other government organisations to procure goods and services through a transparent and efficient online marketplace. It provides startups with an opportunity to showcase their products and services to a wide network of institutional buyers across the country.
To further support startups, follow-up sessions will be organised to assist them in creating product and service catalogues, completing onboarding formalities and strengthening their presence on the GeM portal.
