Delhi Metro’s ambitious Phase-IV expansion is set to redefine urban mobility, with Aerocity Metro Station emerging as a key multi-modal interchange hub, seamlessly integrating airport travel with daily city commuting.

Originally serving as an airport-access station on the Airport Express Line, Aerocity is now being developed into one of the most strategic transit nodes in the expanding metro network. The move is expected to significantly ease passenger movement, reduce road congestion and strengthen east-south connectivity across the capital.

Metro officials confirmed that the Golden Line extension from Aerocity to IGI Airport Terminal-1, covering a distance of 2.3 kilometres, has received approval. Once operational, commuters from areas such as Tughlakabad, Ambedkar Nagar and Khanpur will be able to reach the airport directly by metro, eliminating the need for multiple interchanges or road travel.

Key Project Highlights
Direct integration of Airport Express Line and Golden Line, enabling smooth airport-to-city connectivity
Underground platforms at a depth of around 22 metres, designed for high-capacity operations
Extended station length of nearly 290 metres, much longer than a typical interchange station
Platform-to-platform and concourse-to-concourse connectivity for faster passenger movement
Provision for future NCRTC (Regional Rapid Transit System) integration, paving the way for a potential triple interchange hub

The project has been planned with future growth in mind. Structural provisions are being embedded during construction to accommodate the proposed NCRTC corridor, which is expected to cross the metro alignment diagonally. This forward-looking approach positions Aerocity as a future-ready transit centre for the Delhi-NCR region.

For air travellers, the transformation promises smoother and quicker journeys. Passengers travelling to or from Terminal-1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport will benefit from direct metro access, while south Delhi residents gain faster connectivity to all airport terminals.

With Phase-IV steadily reshaping Delhi’s transit landscape, Aerocity is poised to evolve from a standalone airport station into one of the metro network’s most strategic interchange hubs, linking the city, the region and the airport like never before.
