New Delhi: Former Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president, legislator from Nagar Assembly and a leader who rose from the grassroots as a municipal councillor to the highest organisational post in the state unit, Ram Babu Sharma may no longer be among us in person, but his legacy of public service continues to resonate across Delhi’s political landscape.

A rare leader whose politics was rooted not in power but in service, struggle and sensitivity, Ram Babu Sharma began his public life in student politics. Over the years, his influence steadily expanded, particularly in East Delhi (Yamuna Paar), where he emerged as a mass leader with a deep emotional connect. Such was his bond with the people that he came to be affectionately known as “the Messiah of Yamuna Paar.”

From Councillor to MLA, From Grassroots to State Leadership
Ram Babu Sharma’s political journey stands as a testament to dedication and perseverance. As a municipal councillor, he fought relentlessly at the grassroots to address civic issues. As an MLA, he forcefully raised people-centric concerns on the floor of the House. Later, as president of the Delhi Congress, he worked tirelessly to keep the organisation united and energised during challenging times.

He was not merely a leader of positions, but a committed foot soldier of the Congress ideology, contributing significantly to strengthening the party’s base not only in Delhi but also at the national level.

A Leader Loved Across Sections
What truly distinguished Ram Babu Sharma was his simplicity, accessibility and humane approach. Workers and ordinary citizens alike found in him a patient listener and a dependable problem-solver. His ability to balance organisational discipline with public expectations reflected his political maturity and moral grounding.

Advocate Anil Gautam Remembers
Recalling his association with the late leader, Advocate and former councillor Anil Gautam said: “Leaders like Ram Babu Sharma are rare in today’s politics. He devoted his entire life to public service and the Congress ideology. For us, he was not just a leader but a guide, a mentor and an inspiration.”
Gone in Body, Immortal in Thought

Though Ram Babu Sharma is no longer physically present, his ideals, struggles and selfless service remain alive in the hearts of the people. His contribution to Delhi’s political and social life will continue to guide future generations.
