In a major push to infrastructure-led growth, the Union Cabinet has approved road projects worth ₹20,668 crore, marking a significant step towards strengthening national connectivity, reducing travel time and stimulating economic activity across key regions.

The approval, given under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covers multiple high-impact highway and corridor projects, with a strong focus on Maharashtra, Odisha and strategic national routes. Officials described the decision as a “transformational move” aimed at improving logistics efficiency and fostering balanced regional development.

Six-Lane Nashik–Solapur Corridor
A flagship component of the clearance is the six-lane greenfield corridor between Nashik and Solapur in Maharashtra, to be developed at a cost of around ₹19,142 crore. Spanning approximately 374 kilometres, the corridor will significantly cut travel time, improve road safety and provide seamless connectivity between major industrial, agricultural and urban hubs.

Built on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, the corridor is designed for high-speed travel, with an average speed of 60–100 kmph, and will pass through key districts including Nashik, Ahmednagar and Solapur. Once operational, it is expected to boost trade, tourism and employment generation in the region.

Strategic Upgradation of NH-326
The Cabinet has also approved the widening and upgradation of National Highway-326, covering about 206 kilometres, at an estimated cost of ₹1,526 crore. This project will improve connectivity between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, facilitating smoother movement of goods and people while strengthening regional integration.

Economic and Social Impact
According to government sources, these projects will:
Reduce logistics costs and travel time
Improve road safety and driving comfort
Generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs during construction
Strengthen links between ports, industrial clusters and economic corridors
The Nashik–Solapur corridor, in particular, is expected to enhance multi-modal connectivity, linking highways with rail networks and industrial zones, thereby supporting India’s long-term economic growth vision.

Vision for Development
Officials emphasised that the ₹20,668-crore approval reflects the government’s commitment to world-class infrastructure as the backbone of development. “Modern highways are not just roads; they are growth corridors that connect people, markets and opportunities,” a senior official said.

With this approval, India’s highway expansion programme gains fresh momentum, reinforcing infrastructure as a key driver of development and positioning the country for faster, more inclusive economic growth.
