Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was very surprising that the Aam Aadmi Party has approached the Supreme Court challenging the nomination of the Aldermen by the Lt. Governor though it defies logic why this issue was not raised when it knocked at the doors of the Apex Court on the right of the Aldermen to vote in the Mayoral election. He said that instead of adhering to the Constitutional process, and carrying out its mandated duties for the development and good governance, the Kejriwal Government was knocking at the doors of the Supreme Court on every issue to stall the development of Delhi. He said that if the Lt. Governor has been empowered to nominate the Aldermen in the amended Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Act by the Central Government following the delimitation of the wards, why is the Aam Aadmi Party so worried since it has a majority in the MCD? He said that it was also surprising that the AAP was challenging the nomination of the Aldermen by the LG a month after they had taken oath in the MCD House.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that when the Supreme Court had made it clear that the Aldermen would not vote in the Mayoral election, but they could vote for the election of the Standing Committee members like the elected Councillors, why is the AAP deliberately stalling the election of the Standing Committee members and Zonal Committees?
Ch. Anil Choudhary said that the Aam Aadmi Party deliberately delayed the Mayoral election for almost two and a half months by disrupting the MCD House proceedings several times, as it was scared of taking charge and fulfilling the many promises made to Delhiites in its election manifesto, including flattening of the three garbage mountains and clearing the Capital of pollution. He said that the AAP decision to approach the Supreme Court to challenge the nomination of the Aldermen was yet another diversionary tactic by the Kejriwal Government to divert people’s attention from pollution, severe water shortage, accumulation of garbage, broken roads etc.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that when most areas of Delhi were facing serious water crisis, and Delhi’s air pollution has attained global notoriety, it was shocking that the Lt. Governor parroted a pre-scripted Budget speech in the Assembly, to glorify the “achievements” of the Kejriwal Government.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that Kejriwal was rattled that Aldermen can vote for the Standing Committee elections, and AAP does not have majority in most of the 12 zones in the MCD, which will impact its bid to loot the people on various counts, as it has been doing in the Delhi Government for the past nine years, leading to the arrest of two key former Ministers, Sisodia and Satyender Jain, presently behind the bars.
