NEW DELHI, August 9, 2022—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, under the leadership of DPCC president Ch. Anil Kumar, today started the Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Indian Independence, with a flag-hoisting ceremony at the historic Town Hall, Chandni Chowk. The Yatra, being organized at the direction of the All India Congress Committee, will be held in all the 14 districts of Delhi from August 9 to 15. AICC General-Secretary Shri Mukul Wasnik, MP hoisted the national flag at Town Hall, and also flagged off the Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra. A large number of Congress workers and leaders, carrying the national flag in their hands, participated in the Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra.
The Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra, organised by the Chandni Chowk District Congress Committee and the Tilak Nagar District Congress Committee today, covered Gaon Wala Chowk, Raghubir Nagar and Hari Nagar Ghanta Ghar. The Chandni Chowk segment of the Yatra was held under the leadership of District president Mirza Javed Ali while the Tilak Nagar segment was organised by District president Dharam Pal Chandela.
Besides Shri Mukul Wasnik, and Delhi Incharge Shri Shaktisinh Gohil prominent other Congress leaders who participated in the Yatra were Chairman of the DPCC Communications Department and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bharadwaj, DPCC vice-president Shri Mudit Agarwal, ex-MLAs Kunwar Karan Singh, Vijay Singh Lochav, Malaram Gangwal, Rajesh Jain, Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress president Amrita Dhawan, Dr Naresh Kumar, Ex MCs Prerna Singh and Seema Tahira, Vice-Chairman of the DPCC Communications Department Shri Parvez Alam, JP Panwar, office-bearers and workers of Sewa Dal, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and NSUI.
Shri Mukul Wasnik said that the Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra, which will remind the people of the country about the struggles and sacrifices waged by the Congress leaders and workers to get India’s Independence from the British rule, was intended to end the atmosphere of hatred and spread friendship and brotherhood all around. He said that in the present context, when the voice of reason is being crushed by the BJP Government through arm-twisting tactics and by creating an atmosphere of terror and fear, people would realize how important it was to live in a free country, by adhering to the rights and responsibilities guaranteed by the Constitution. He said that if India enjoys a prominent place in the comity of nations, it was because of the strong foundation and infrastructure created by visionary Congress leaders over the years, as the core principals of their governance was the progress and development of the country, and the welfare of the people.
Shri Mukul Wasnik said that it was saddening to see the BJP Government selling off great public institutions painstakingly created by successive Congress Governments with vision and forethought, and pushing the development of the country backward by several years with wasteful expenditure. He said that people are fed up with price rise, unemployment and loss of businesses and livelihoods, as the focus of the BJP Government was to make a few chosen rich people richer at the cost of the common people in the country.
Shri Mukul Wasnik said that Congress party was committed to work for the interest and welfare of the people, whatever may be the hurdles and obstacles, and they will not be browbeaten by the high-handed tactics of the ruling dispensation, which instead of tackling issues at a political level, was getting personal by targeting the top leadership of the party with coercive methods. He said that the Aazadi Ki Gaurav Yatra will not only recall the Congress party’s matchless contribution in the freedom struggle, but also the development of the country post-Independence.
AICC in-charge of Delhi Shri Shakti Sinh Gohil, MP said that the kind of suffocating atmosphere being created in the country threatens the freedom of the people. He said it was time people rose like a man to protect the unity and religious amity of the country as divisive forces were trying to create divide among the people on communal and caste lines. He said that the Yatra will create close interaction with the people and remind them of their responsibility to maintain communal harmony and protect the Independence of the country which the Congress party had secured after making great sacrifices.
