Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ch Anil Kumar said that the MCD move to hike house tax to double the existing amount and Trade and License Tax from Rs 500 to Rs 1 lakh will put unbearable burden on the people, who are battling price rise, unemployment and the aftereffects of the Covid-19 pandemic devastation. He demanded the immediate roll back of these tax hikes by the MCD. He said that when the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi were merged and the MCD elections were deferred, the BJP Government at the Centre and the BJP leaders had spread the impression that the Centre would infuse funds into the MCD to address it’s financial woes, instead it has put additional tax burden on the people and traders.

Ch. Anil Kumar, along with AICC In-charge of Delhi Shri Shakti Sinh Gohil, Chairman of DPCC Communications Department and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bhardwaj and ex-MLA Shri Vijay Singh Lochav addressed  meetings organized by Rohini, Karawal Nagar, Chandni Chowk, Adarsh Nagar and Tilak Nagar District Congress Committees to plan the programmes for the 75th year of India’s Independence (Aazadi Gaurav Yatra), achieved due to the struggles and sacrifices of the Congress workers and leaders. The meetings were also attended by senior Congress leaders, District and Block Congress Committee Presidents and office-bears. Such meetings will be held in all the districts before the party holds a big agitation against price rise on August 5, and Padayatras from August 9 to 15 to mark  the 75th year of Independence.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Arvind Kejriwal Government’s decision to revert to the old Excise Policy was a victory for the Congress workers and the people of Delhi as their sustained protests and representations against the new Liquor Policy had the desired results when the Lt.Governor ordered a CBI enquiry to probe the corruption, irregularities and rules violations in the liquor deal to favour a few cartels at the behest of Excise Minister Manish Sisodia, who alongwith Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, now find themselves in troubled waters for corruption.
