Congress candidate for the Rajendra Nagar Assembly by-election Smt.Prem Lata said that during her close interaction with the residents of Rajendra Nagar, she received many complaints that due to choked drains, which have not yet been de-silted, they face the prospect of water-logging when the rain comes, though presently, they were starving for potable water, which has become a scarce commodity. She said that the Arvind Kejriwal Government, in collusion with the BJP, had committed big corruption in the name of de-silting for the past eight years, and as a result, the drains in the area are chocked, creating heavy water-logging of the lanes and bylanes during rains.

Smt. Prem Lata said that areas such as Pandav Nagar, Inderpuri JJ Colony, Todapur Balmiki Mohalla, Dashghara Balmiki Mohalla etc. get flooded with the first hint of monsoon rains, making the lives of the people unbearable. She said that former AAP MLA Raghav Chadha, despite being the vice-chairman of the Delhi Jal Board, did nothing to solve water-logging in the area, and ensure regular supply of drinking water. She said that because of his inaction and indifferent attitude, the people of Rajendra Nagar are suffering untold misery. She said that the BJP and the AAP have fielded big leaders for canvassing of the by-election, and they are making tall promises, but no one talks about solving the basic problems haunting the Rajendra Nagar area.

Smt. Prem Lata said that neither the BJP candidate, nor the AAP candidate are bothered about the water-logging and water-shortage, clogged sewers, piled up garbage, broken roads and other issues dogging the people, as they are only making empty promises for which the people of Rajendra Nagar are least interested, as they know that such hollow promises are never fulfilled.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that only Congress candidate Smt. Prem Lata was interacting with the common people, and understanding their problems, as her priority was to solve the local problems first. He said that it was clear from the direction of the Hon’ble court that it was the responsibility of the Kejriwal Government to get the drains de-silted before the monsoon rains hit the Capital, as the PWD roads are under the Delhi Government. He said that the drains should have been de-silted before May 31, but the Kejriwal Government has taken no steps for the cleaning of the drains up till now. He said that no relevant work was done in the area other than empty rhetoric by the politicians of the ruling party,

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and Councillors and the BJP MLAs and Councillors have not done any work beneficial to the people other than indulging in corruption in the name of sanitation and cleaning of the drains. He said that there are  2836 big and small drains in Delhi, stretching into 3692 kms. most of which are under the Public Works Department of the  Delhi Government. He said that the Kejriwal Government has no plans to address the perennial water-logging problem, as it has not prepared a Drainage Master Plan until now. He said that the BJP-ruled MCD did not clean drains less that 4-feet wide while the Kejriwal Government did not clean drains bigger than 4-feet wide.
