Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that Congress has a history of serving the people even when the party was out of power, and going through a difficult phase, as the credo of the Congress has always been to work for the welfare of the people, at all times. Ch. Anil Kumar today hoisted the Congress flag at Town Hall, Chandni Chowk, to mark the 79th anniversary of the Quit India Movement.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that Congress has been holding the flag-hoisting ceremony every year without fail to mark the Quit India Day, in the memory of the brave soldiers and leaders who laid down their lives for the freedom of the country. The programme was organized by Chandni Chowk District Congress Committee president Mohd. Usman.
After the flag-hoisting ceremony, a “save democracy” flag march was held from Town Hall to Red Fort, under the leadership of Ch. Anil Kumar, participated by senior leaders like ex-MP Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal, All India Sewal Dal chief organizer Lalji Desai, AICC secretary Tarun Kumar, ex-MLAs Anil Bhardwaj, Hari Shankar Gupta, Kunwar Karan Singh, Ms. Alka Lamba, Rajesh Jain, Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress president Amrita Dhawan, DPCC Sewa Dal chief organizer Sunil Kumar, Abdul Wahid Qureshi.

Anil Kumar said that it was ironic that 70 years after the hard-won freedom struggle, Indians have been divested of their economic and personal freedom by the BJP-led Narendra Modi Government at the Centre, which had been working to enrich their rich friends get richer, and for personal and political gains by divesting the institutions nursed with great care and foresight by visionary Congress leaders like Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and others over the years.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Modi Government has been working overtime to not only in the disinvestment of profit-making public sector units, but also passing draconian Laws to hand over the farm sector to private hands, despite vehement opposition by those who till the land, the farmers.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that due to the destructive and anti-people policies by the Modi Government, the country is heading towards an uncertain future with people losing faith and trust in each other, due to the seeds of hatred sown by the communal forces. He said that due to the wrong policies of the BJP Government, and tinkering with the salient features of the Constitution, the Modi Government was tearing apart the social fabric of the country to disturb the peace and harmony of the people. He said that the farmers have been sitting on the roads for the past eight months, protesting against the anti-people farm laws, but the Modi Government was not willing to listen to their genuine demands, and in the process, hundreds of farmers have lost their lives.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that Congress party was not a mere political outfit, but it was an ideology which has been ingrained in the consciousness of the people, as the party had made great sacrifices to get the country freed from the oppressive rule of the British, and carried out memorable development works to lead the country to progress and development. He said that Congress had striven hard to create an egalitarian society for everyone to get equal opportunity to advance in life, which is being crushed asunder by communal forces with an authoritarian and autocratic mindset.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Congress party has been exposing the destructive policies of the Government, but the Modi Government, misusing the powers of the Government, was trying to suppress the voice of the Opposition. He said that the youth of the country, the future of tomorrow, was roaming around aimlessly without jobs, and women cannot step out of their homes as their lives are not safe, and the Covid-19 pandemic has ruined every family in the country, but the Modi Government has been busy enforcing its personal agenda at the cost of the welfare of the people, and progress of the country.
