Synopsis: Ch. Anil Kumar said that the frequent  hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel have taken the rate of a litre of petrol in Delhi to Rs 99.86 and that of diesel to Rs 89.36 per litre. He said that people have no energy left to even protest against such inhuman acts by the Modi and Arvind Governments, as the Covid-19 pandemic has ruined their lives beyond repair, as it has left no household in Delhi untouched.

A large number of Congress workers, including women, under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar, held a demonstration outside the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind at Civil Lines today, to protest against his collusion with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in hiking the prices of petrol and diesel 34 times in the past two months, and also that of the cooking gas, to make the Corona-ravaged lives of Delhiites, unbearable. Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Congress workers protested, demanding reduction in VAT (Value Added Tax) on petrol and diesel, which had been promised by CM Arvind, but has now gone back on his promise.

The Congress workers held placards with slogans such as “Modi-Kejriwal Ka Dekho Khel, Kha Gaya Ration, Pee Gaya Tel”, “Kejriwal aur Modi Ki Sarkar, Tel Ki Kimat 100 Ke Paar”, etc. Delhi Police used lathi-charge on the peaceful Congress demonstrators, causing serious injuries to many Congress leaders and workers.

????????????????????????????????????

Besides Ch. Anil Kumar, prominent among those who participated in the demonstration were All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, DPCC vice-presidents   Jaikishan, Abhishek Dutt, Mudit Agarwal and Ali Mehndi, Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress president Ms. Amrita Dhawan, Ex-MLAs Anil Bhardwaj, Vijay Lochav, Amrish Gautam and Bisham Sharma, District presidents Harikishan Jindal,  Mohd. Usman, Dinesh Advocate, Rajesh Chauhan, Vishnu Agarwal, representatives from Seva Dal, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, NSUI and from various Cells and Departments.

Ch.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Delhi Government was getting 30% and 16.75% as VAT (Value Added Tax) on a litre of petrol and diesel, respectively, and  if the VAT rate is reduced, petroleum products can be sold at a much cheaper rate in the Capital. He said that when Congress was in power, VAT on petrol was 20% while that of on diesel was 12.5 per cent, though crude oil price at the international market was much higher than the prevailing price. Ch Anil Kumar said that the Arvind Government had collected over Rs 25,000 crore in VAT in the last six years, and thousands of crores in GST, but when the Covid pandemic hit the people like a tornado, killing thousands of people in a matter of weeks, the Arvind Government did nothing to help people out of their misery.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was ironic that the Chief Minister was writing to the Prime Minister to give doctors Bharat Ratna for their sacrifices during the pandemic crisis, though he himself was shying away from awarding the Rs 1 crore compensation his Government had announced for those Corona Warriors who had succumbed to the virus while on duty.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Modi Government was charging Rs 32.90 per litre of petrol and Rs 31.80 for a litre of diesel in Excise Duty, and it had collected lakhs of crores in tax from petrol and diesel alone, yet the Central Government was not willing to provide free Covid vaccination to the people until the apex court gave them an ultimatum.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that despite the Arvind Government earning thousands of crores in taxes, all development works have come to a standstill, as no new school or hospital has been created in Delhi, nor a bus added to the ever-depleting DTC fleet, leaving the public transport system in a mess, though CM Arvind had announced free ride for women in DTC buses as an  election stunt, very well knowing that women can’t travel free without buses plying on the roads.
