Congress workers also held protests outside all the drive-through private vaccination centres across the Capital. Besides Ch. Anil Kuamar, DPCC vice president Ali Mehndi, DCC presidents Dinesh Kumar Advocate, Gurcharan Singh Raju, Hari Kishan Jindal, Kailash Jain, A.R. Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind has been fooling the people of Delhi and telling them lies by promising them free vaccination. He said that a large number of people are still waiting for their second dose, even two months after getting their first jab, as the Delhi Government had run short of vaccines, while vaccines were available in abundance in private hospitals and drive-through vaccination centres, though these centres charge over Rs 1600 per dose.
He said that the Delhi Government depended on the Modi Government for free supply of the vaccine, which the Centre refused to oblige, without sourcing the medicine directly from the manufacturers, as most States in the country have done. He said that Delhi Congress had advised the Arvind Government to float a global tender to purchase vaccines from the open market, but the Arvind Government delayed the process, and now the Capital faces an acute shortage of vaccines for its free jab scheme, with Delhi unlikely to get sufficient quantity of the vaccine any time soon.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Arvind Government has been a total failure in managing the Covid-19 pandemic as well as the vaccination drive. He said that to divert people’s attention from the Delhi Government’s sloppy vaccination campaign, the Chief Minister was now raising the question of the Lt. Governor not permitting Delhi Government’s door-step delivery of ration.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that CM Arvind’s latest promise of providing free vaccination to the poor in their respective voting booths within one month was yet another lie, as without any assured vaccine delivery, where would the vaccines materialize for free jabs to the poor? He said that free ration is being distributed from these centres, and when the vaccination drive starts from the voting booths, will the Arvind Government close free distribution of ration?
Ch. Anil Kumar said that after shutting down the Government vaccination centres across Delhi, CM Arvind was busy inaugurating premium drive-through vaccination centres, and exhorting people to people to get themselves vaccinated at these facilities, which would help the private players make a huge profit from the vaccination centres, and the Arvind Government seems to have some vested interest in it.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Arvind and Modi Governments were adopting arm-twisting tactics against the Congress workers who protested outside the Akshardam Centre and other private vaccination points when several senior leaders were detained by Delhi Police. He asserted that Congress will not keep quiet till the Arvind Government gives free vaccination to all.
Those who were detained by the police included Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee vice-presidents Shri Abhishek Dutt, Shri Ali Mehndi, Shri Mudit Agarwal and Shri Jaikishan, Ms. Alka Lamba, Ms. Amrita Dhawan, Shri Satbir Sharma, Shri Vishnu Agarwal, Shri Rajesh Chauhan, Mohd Usman.
