Synopsis:
Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Corona death data released by the Delhi Government seemed to be doctored, and does not match ground reality. He said that hundreds of Corona Warriors, including nurses, paramedics and journalists had died on duty, but the Arvind Government disbursed the compensation in a selective manner, exposing the hollow promise and lies of Chief Minister Arvind. Ex-MLA Shri Hari Shankar Gupta was also present at the press conference.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was shocking to realize that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind was telling lies and trying to take political mileage out of the disbursement of Rs 1 crore compensation to the families of the Corona Warriors, who died on duty, in a “pick and choose manner”.

He said that according to media reports and information gathered from other sources, 94 Municipal Corporation of Delhi employees, including 49 sanitation workers, over 100 teachers, 32 Delhi Police personnel and 103 doctors had succumbed to the Corona virus while on duty in the past 14 months, but the Arvind Government gave the Rs 1 crore compensation to only 15 families of the dead Warriors. Ch. Anil Kumar demanded that the Arvind Government make public know how many families of Corona Warriors were paid the Rs 1 crore compensation so far.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that according to an order issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi Government on April 7, 2020, it was stated that “Any person attending Covid-19 patients, including doctor, nurse, para-medical staff, sweeper or any other staff, whether temporary or permanent employee, in Government or Private Sector, if expire by contracting the disease during discharge of his/her duty, his/her family shall be compensated with ex-gratia amount of Rs 1 crore, posthumously”. Ch. Anil Kumar said that this order was passed by the Delhi Government without any outside pressure, and it should honour its commitment to the families of the diseased Corona Warriors.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that  if Covid-19 cases are coming down in the National Capital, it was also due to the extreme sacrifice of these brave Corona Warriors, who risked their own lives, as well as that of their family members, to be active on frontline duty to bring the pandemic under control, though many such warriors have fell victims to the virus, unsung.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi had announced an additional Rs 10 lakh to any MCD employee who died on Covid duty.  He appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind, Lt. Governor Shri Anil Baijal and BJP State president Shri Adesh Gupta (who raised the issue of one  Amit Rana, whose family was promised Rs 1 crore compensation by CM Arvind, but  has not yet disbursed the amount), to expedite the compensation to all the families of the Corona Warriors, and not selectively, as has been done by  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind. He said that the compensation package announced by the Arvind Government following many deaths due to Covid-19 and oxygen shortage was an eye-wash, as CM Arvind’s intention was to bluff the people, and not fulfil his promise.

Ex-MLA Shri Hari Shankar Gupta said that the incompetent Arvind Government left the people of Delhi at the mercy of God, instead of taking strong steps to alleviate their suffering. He said that people of Delhi are mentally, physically and financially tired of the Covid crisis, and the politics of the Arvind Government, as whatever CM Arvind had done was with political intentions, and not for the benefit of the people.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that both the Indian and international media have been highlighting the inaccurate Covid infection and death data released by the Modi Government at the Centre and the Arvind Government in Delhi, as these Governments have been underplaying the Covid cases to varnish their public image for political gains, and such a retrograde move has proved very costly for the country.
