Synopsis:
Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was shocking that the Arvind Government kept quiet for over a month as the Union Cabinet had given its approval for the introduction of the Bill in Parliament on 3rd February; nor did the Aam Aadmi Party MPs in both the Houses of Parliament spoke against the Bill. Ch. Anil Kumar said that the seven BJP MPs from Delhi were also guilty of acquiescing to the move by the Modi Government to snatch away the powers of an elected Government in Delhi, which was a betrayal of the faith reposed on them by the people of Delhi, as they were elected to the Lok Sabha to serve the interest of Delhiites, and not be  party to diluting  the powers of the democratically-elected Delhi Government.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was strange that only after the Delhi Congress announced its decision to hold a dharna at Jantar Mantar tomorrow (Wednesday), 17th March, 2021 to protest against the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act (Amendment) Bill,  introduced by the BJP Government in Parliament yesterday, that it dawned on the Arvind Government to hold a  demonstration drama a day later.

He cautioned that if the Bill is passed, then the Delhi Government will be reduced to a mere puppet at the hands of the Lt. Governor, who would wield the real power in the national Capital.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that in a way, the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi has been handed out poetic justice, for supporting the Modi Government when a Bill was passed to snatch away the Statehood of Jammu and Kashmir, and bifurcate J and K and Ladakh as Union Territories.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was highly irresponsible on the part of Delhi Minister Gopal Rai to say that the AAP Government would talk with the Opposition MPs to protest against the Bill, for, even now, the Arvind Government was unsure of taking a strong stand against the Bill. He said that the Arvind Government seems to have no problem giving up its powers to the Lt. Governor. He demanded that Chief Minister Arvind apologize to the people of the country for supporting the Modi Government’s ‘divide’ and rule policy.
