Synopsis:
Delhi was ranked 35th among the 49 cities in the quality of life parameter which was assessed based on education, health, housing, waste management, mobility, safety and security, and recreation. While Chennai topped the list, cities such as Ghaziabad, Pune, Bengaluru were ahead of Delhi.

Leaders of the Congress party in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi, Shri Abhishek Dutt (South), Shri Mukesh Goel (West) and Ms. Rinku (East), said that it came as no surprise to them that Delhi has been ranked 35th out of 49 cities surveyed across the country, “in the Ease of Living Index 2020” on the parameters of quality of living, conducted by the BJP-ruled Central Government, which has called the bluff and exposed the lies of the BJP-ruled MCDs and the Aam Aadmi Party Government.

They said that the BJP and AAP Governments wasted their time in making charges and counter-charges, about corruption and misrule, through hoardings and posters, without filing FIRs against each other, if they were serious about pursuing their charges. They said that the shadow boxing was only to fool the people, but in the process, Delhiites suffered. They said that the quality of living score of Delhi is less than the national average, Delhi ranked 40th in safety and security and 42nd in environmental sustainability.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, the Congress leaders said that Delhi has terribly fallen in almost all the parameters, like education, health, housing, waste management, planning, pollution, safety and security, as the assessment tool evaluated the quality of life and the impact of various initiatives for urban development. The survey also incorporates the Citizen Perception, which provides the residents’ view, on the services provided by a city government.

Leader of the Congress in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, Shri Abhishek Dutt, who is also the vice-president of the DPCC, said that the survey has called the bluff of the Arvind Government, which has been boasting about its so-called “model” of health care, education, governance etc. He said that in public transport, Delhi figures among the “worst five cities”. He said that the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations of Delhi stand at 95th place in  Citizen Perception, out of 111 municipalities examined in sectoral performances, like services, finance, policy, technology and governance.

Shri Abhishek Dutt said that Chief Minister Arvind had made big promises in the recent MCD by-polls to 5 wards, like solving their salary woes, ensuring cleanliness, safety and security, and now it was his responsibility to tackle these problems, after winning 4 wards, with Congress wresting AAP’s sitting ward Chauhan Banger with a margin of over 10,000 votes.

Leader of the Congress in the North Delhi Municipal Corporation Shri Mukesh Goel said that BJP’s corrupt misrule in the Corporations has been brought out tellingly in the survey, as South, East and North MCDs have been ranked 28th, 42nd and 48th, respectively. He said that the MCDs and the Arvind Governments have squandered crores of rupees on publicity, and if a fraction of that amount was spent for development, the national Capital would have been a better place to live. He asserted that 10 months from now, Congress will crush the BJP and AAP in the MCD general elections.

Leader of the Congress in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation Ms Rinku said that when Congress was in power at the Centre, Delhi and in the MCDs, Delhi witnessed massive development. She said that East Delhi has a concentration of poor people, and the main reason for the rise in crimes in the area, was due to unemployment among the youth, as the MCDs and the Arvind Governments have done nothing to generate employment or ensure livelihood for them.
