He said that BJP suffered a 10 per cent reduction in its vote percentage while AAP’s votes suffered a 5.50 per cent cut. He said that the Delhi Congress effectively raised issues affecting the people, and corruption and misrule of the BJP and AAP, to win back people’s trust and confidence. He said that Delhiites were now looking towards Congress to give the knockout punch in the MCD general elections in 2022. “Congress will win the MCD elections in 2022, like in 2002”, he asserted.

He also thanked the Congress workers, observers, block presidents, the control room setup at Rajiv Bhawan, leaders, media, election and security officials.

Addressing a crowded press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhiites not only want Congress back in power, but the by-election results also proved their emphatic response to the corruption and misrule of the BJP, lording over the Municipal Corporations for the past 15 years, and the Arvind Government, which has been driving Delhi to ruin, for the past seven years.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the forceful, positive leadership provided by Shri Rahul Gandhi and Smt. Priyanka Gandhi, when the people of Delhi faced untold misery, gloom and uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, and Congress’   support to the farmers’ agitation demanding the repeal of the three black agricultural laws, had turned the tide in favour of the Congress.

He said that the Congress workers successfully exposed issues like cleanliness, price raise, including oil price hike, corruption, ration, pension, unemployment, dirty drinking water etc. But he cautioned the Congress workers not to lower their guard, and maintain the momentum of their hard work, to stamp the final victory in the MCD general elections next year. He said that the BJP’s humiliation was a befitting reply to the arrogance and autocratic misrule of the Modi Government at the Centre.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that despite the BJP and Aam Aadmi Party misusing official machinery and money power, Congress workers spared no effort to make personal contact with the people, and expose the BJP and AAP.  He said that the real battle will be fought in the MCD general elections next year, when BJP will be wiped out from the Corporations for its corruption and non-performance.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Chief Minister Arvind had made many promises to the people during the by-election campaigns, but if the MCD workers strike work for non-payment of their salaries, and if the sanitation workers abstain from duty, demanding their wages and turn the Capital into a huge waste dump, full of filth and garbage, and if corruption in the MCDs persists, the youth of Delhi continue to struggle without jobs and livelihood, then CM Arvind will be answerable.

Victorious Congress candidate from the Chauhan Banger ward, Shri Zubair Ahamad, said that the people gave him overwhelming support as he got 16500 votes out of the total 22,000 votes polled. He said that the humiliation of the BJP and AAP was so complete that he got all the 61 and 6 votes in two polling booths, indicating that even the polling agents of both these parties also voted for him! He thanked Rahulji, Priyankaji, DPCC president Ch. Anil Kumar and the Congress workers for his impressive win. He said that Chief Minister Arvind and his entire Cabinet, including top officials, had virtually camped in the ward and canvassed for the AAP candidate, but the people mercilessly rejected it.
