Synopsis:
Shri Gohil said that people are fed up with the corruption and misrule of both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, and want Congress back in power. He said that the by-elections will be a dry-run for the Congress party’s forceful comeback in the MCD general elections in 2022. He said that while the MCDs are dens of corruption, the Arvind Government has also looted the people for works never done, like the sewer pipeline-laying scam at Shahbad Dairy, and the Arvind Government suppressing the case against the MCD officials for misappropriating the Rs 5.7 crore scholarship money, meant for Dalit students. He said that the Anti-Corruption Bureau had written to the Delhi Government to follow up this case a year back, but Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia did not pursue the case.

AICC In-charge of Delhi Congress Shri Shakti Sinh Gohil said that Congress will sweep all the five MCD wards where by-elections will be held on February 28, 2021. Addressing public meetings at packed venues in East Delhi today, Shri Gohil said that people want Congress back in power, as they were fed up with the corruption-ridden misrule and constant bickering between the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporations and the Arvind Government in Delhi. He said that no development work, or work of any substance for that matter, had been done for the past seven years, ever since the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Delhi, as it had only time to clash with the BJP-ruled MCDs, notorious for corruption and inefficiency.

Addressing public meetings at Kalyanpuri Ward, Trilokpuri Ward and Chauhan Banger Ward (Seelampur) for Congress candidates Shri Dharampal Maurya, Shri Balkishan and Ch. Zubair Ahamad, respectively, Shri Shakti Sinh Gohil said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind was infamous for not only telling lies and covering up corruption but also making hollow promises, which he never fulfils.

He said that the Arvind Government has acted in complicity with the BJP to hide corruption and misuse of funds in the Municipal Corporations, as both the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party were beneficiaries to the loot of public money. Prominent among those present at the public meetings, besides the three Congress candidates, were Ex Delhi Minister Dr. Narender Nath and Uttrakhand Ex-Minister Shri Dheerender Pratap, ex-MLAs Shri Amrish Gautam, Ch. Mateen Ahmed, Veer Singh Dhingan, Dinesh Kumar Advocate, Ch. Mateen Ahmed, Shri Kailash Jain, MCs Darshna Jatav and Ved Pal, Ramesh Pandit, Shri Vijay Kumar, Vidya Devi, Abdul Hannan, Pramod Jayant, Mahinder Mangla and Tarun Tyagi,

Shri Gohil said that it was due to the delayed reaction by the Arvind Government and the MCDs that the Covid-19 virus made a fast spread in Delhi, with nearly 11,000 people losing their lives. He said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind’s promises remained just that, without doing any follow up action, as Delhiites suffered its misrule. He said that like the MCDs, the Delhi Jal Board is also a den of corruption, as  CM Arvind is only interested in spreading his political wings in other States, instead of focusing on the issues/problems in Delhi. As a result, the National Capital, which had been turned into a world-class metropolis in every sense during the 15-year rule of the Congress, has now been reduced to a third-class city, failing in all the parameters of good governance, like generating employment, keeping the air, water and land clean, fit for living, and in addressing the concerns and problems of the people. He said that Congress is the only alternative for good governance, which people have realized now, and asserted that the party will win all the five wards in the MCD by-elections.
