Leader of the Congress party in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) Shri Abhishek Dutt, who is also the Vice-President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, said that the SDMC proposal regarding issuance of permanent licences to non-official businesses like restaurants of the new design, E-Food Carts and Kiosks in parks, Food-trucks and buses etc. for selling and feeding food items/eatables, should be given to dependents of Corona Warriors, who sacrificed their lives on Corona duty.

He said that these Corona Warriors include Delhi Police, health workers, Delhi Government officials, teachers, journalists and others who died while on Corona duty, and Group D employees of SDMC, who worked during the Corona pandemic. He said that licenses should be allotted to the Group D employees through a lottery system, like the one followed by the Delhi Development Authority.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Shri Abhishek Dutt said that he moved a resolution in this matter at a meeting of the House today. He said that the House should rise above party politics in allotting these licences, which will be the most appropriate homage the Corporation can pay to its brave Corona Warriors, who sacrificed their lives, for the larger interest of the society.

Shri Abhishek Dutt said that the construction of kiosks in parks to sell dairy products, fruits, vegetables and fruit juice, owned and managed by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, should be done only after obtaining a written NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the area Councillor, and these kiosks should be run on the basis of a fixed time-table. Shri Abhishek Dutt also demanded that the BJP-ruled SDMC should not indulge in any sort of corruption in the allotment of licences to the above-mentioned category of food serving outlets, which is intended to help the poor.

He said that these licenses should be given only to the most deserving, and no other consideration should matter. Others present at the press conference were Municipal Councillor Darshana Yadav, the sons of Corona Warrior sanitation workers Sumit and Ajay Kumar and Health Workers Union members Sunil Yadav, Virender Chharariya and Om Prakash Panchal.

Shri Abhishek Dutt also moved a resolution, that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation should identify areas where street lighting is needed, strictly on the basis of requirement, as the Delhi Government was adopting a “pick and choose” policy, in installing street lights on houses, in the absence of poles, by taking NOC from the house owners. He said that such house owners are also being given concession in their power bills. He said that due to the selective policy by the Arvind Government, lights have not been installed at some dark spots where crimes occur, and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation should take upon this responsibility on itself so that lights are installed at needed places, and not on the basis of politics and a pick-and-choose policy.
