Synopsis:
Delhi Congress accuses the Arvind Government of acting at the behest of the Modi Government to sabotage the farmers’ agitation. The Delhi Government has been helping Delhi Police in digging up roads with cranes, installing iron grills and spikes, and cementing the barriers to the ground through the PWD—ex-MLA Alka Lamba. CM Arvind’s secret agenda is to become the Chief Minister of Punjab, as his ‘sympathy’ for the farmers’ protest, is a charade—ex-MLA Adarsh Shastri.

Ex-MLAs Ms Alka Lamba and Shri Adarsh Shastri said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind’s so-called “sympathy” for the farmers’ agitation was a put-on drama to mislead the farmers, as he has been acting with an ulterior motive, at the behest of the Modi Government at the Centre. They said that all through, the Arvind Government’s attitude towards the farmers’ protest, demanding the repeal of the three black Laws, has been one of “conspiracy, drama and betrayal”.

Addressing a joint press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Ms Alka Lamba and Shri Adarsh Shastri said that an Aam Aadmi Party spokesperson in-charge of Punjab wrote a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Capt. Amrinder Singh, stressing the “urgent need for police protection for protesting farmers of Punjab”, though the Delhi Government has been helping  Union Home Minister Amit Shah-controlled Delhi Police in digging up roads with cranes, installing iron grills and spikes, and cementing the barriers to the ground through the PWD.

Ms Alka Lamba said that if the Delhi CM was so concerned about the safety and security of the farmers, why didn’t he write letters to the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states,  Haryana and Uttar Pradesh? She asked why did CM Arvind keep quiet when the anti-farmer Laws were notified by the Modi Government on 5 June 2020, and why did the Delhi Government endorse one of the Three Laws?

She said that CM Arvind had neither tweeted nor gave a press statement, against the Laws. In fact, she added, he was an active part in suppressing the farmers’ voice and weakening their agitation. She said that according to a leading newspaper, when a Niti Ayog member asked for his feedback on the Agricultural Laws, on 12th November 2020, CM Arvind had spoken in support of the Laws, as they will “strengthen the financial condition of villages and farming”.

Shri Adarsh Shastri said that CM Arvind’s secret agenda is to become the Chief Minister of Punjab, and that was the only reason for showing an outward display of sympathy for the farmers’ agitation. He asked how could the DTC, which is under the Delhi Government, provide buses without the Chief Minister’s knowledge, to transport the police personnel and take the arrested farmers to jails?

He said that though the farmers’ agitation has been going on for the past 70 days, the Aam Aadmi Party MLAs have been deputed to States like Uttarkhand, UP, Goa and Gujarat with an eye on the Assembly elections there, instead of supporting the farmers’ agitation by being present in Delhi.

Shri Adarsh Shastri said that the Arvind Government did not do anything to stop the miscreants who infiltrated farmers’ Tractor Rally turning violent on Republic Day. He said that the Delhi Government has also not provided CCTV footage of the mayhem at Red Fort, as it would have exposed the complicity of the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party in the violence.

He said that the three BJP Mayors of Municipal Corporations protested outside the residence of Chief Minister Arvind to create a big drama when the Congress workers, under the leadership of DPCC President Ch. Anil Kumar gheraoed the Raj Bhawan on Bharat Bandh day on 8 December 2020  in which Shri Rahul Gandhi and Smt. Priyanka Gandhi also participated, but the Chief Minister kept quiet, with not even a tweet, and he stirred out his residence only after the Congress protest.

Shri Shastri said that the Arvind Government was the first state in the country to endorse one of the three anti-farmer black Agricultural Laws, passed by the Union Government, at a special session of the Delhi Assembly on 23 November 2020. He said that whether it was the Covid-19 pandemic crisis,  Delhi riots and the farmers’ agitation, CM Arvind preferred to remain quiet, staying put at his palatial official bungalow, without reacting. He said that an RTI question has called the bluff of the Arvind Government, as it has not extended any help for the protesting farmers.
