Synopsis:
Who instructed the Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers to incite violence at the farmers’ rally? asks Ch. Anil Kumar.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi asks for the resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah, for the serious security lapse on Republic Day on January 26,  when the entire country is put on high alert, but the national Capital witnessed mayhem when a few destructive elements sneaked into the Farmers’ Tractor Rally to create disconcerting violence, which was a major intelligence lapse on the part of Delhi Police.

He said that the Congress party, which follows Gandhiji’s non-violent path, will not condone or support any sort of violence, and it supports the farmers’ protest, seeking a rollback of the three anti-farmer Agricultural Laws because it was being held peacefully on the borders of Delhi.

Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Ch. Anil Kumar condemned the ‘loud silence’ of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind when the Capital witnessed violence on a day, which is very sacrosanct for the entire country. He said that it was for the second time in one year that Delhi had witnessed lawlessness of this magnitude, but CM Arvind kept himself aloof and mum, not reacting to the situations, even though a tweet or a video appeal, as he had done when North East Delhi was burning.

He asked CM Arvind to answer who gave direction to the Aam Aadmi Party leaders and workers to incite violence in the farmers’ Tractor Rally.  He said that it was for the first time, 73 years after India became a republic, that such an untoward situation had happened in Delhi. Ex-MLA and former Parliamentary Secretary to the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress Government Shri Anil Bhardwaj, former Deputy Speaker Shri Amrish Gautam and Delhi Pradesh Mahila Congress president Ms Amrita Dhawan were also present at the Press Conference.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was very disturbing to see that the Modi Government seems to be least concerned by the sacrifices and plight of the farmers, who have been protesting on the borders of Delhi for the past 64 days, demanding the repeal of the anti-farmer Laws, and 178 farmers have already become martyrs to the cause. He said that the nearly 300 police personnel injured were also sons of farmers, and there seems to be a deliberate attempt to create divide between farmers and soldiders in a country which coined the slogan “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan”, by a former Congress Government Prime Minister.

He said that the Modi Government, instead of conceding the just demands of the farmers,  was trying to crush them through the might of the Police and para-military forces, thouth the farmers have been protesting in this unbearable cold weather. He said that following the tractor rally violence, 37 FIRs have been registered against over 200 farmer leaders, to implicate them in false cases, to put them under pressure to end the farmers’ protest, and terming them as anti-nationals.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that BJP agents like Deep Sindhu and Lakha Sidhana, who have been meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 1, Race Course Road, were planted among the farmers and were the master minds of hoisting a religious flag at Red Fort, to defame the farmers’ peaceful movement, but they have not yet been booked. Ch. Anil Kumar asked whether Sidhu will also roam free like Kapil Mishra, who had inflamed violence in North East Delhi, but has not been booked yet.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind, who has been shedding crocodile tears for the farmers’ cause, has neither met the Prime Minister nor the Union Home Minister, nor the Union Agriculture Minister, to thrash out a solution to the farmers protest, though he has been the leader of the Anna Hazare agitation when the then UP Government tried to mediate.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that despite Delhi witnessing scenes that should not have happened on Republic Day, Prime Minister Modi has not met his Home Minister to discuss the matter, which clearly points at a serious communication gap in the BJP Government at the Centre. He said that while Delhi was being rocked on Republic Day, CM Arvind was busy in party work, and preparing for the forthcoming elections to Assemblies in six other States.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Modi Government was playing out a charade by holding talks with the farmers, not keen to arrive at a decision, as 11 meetings with the farmers and representatives of the Modi Government have ended in deadlocks.

Shri Anil Bhardwaj said that violence has no place in a democracy, and Congress will not support violence in any form, by anyone, as the party always stands with the people. He said that Congress supports the peaceful protest by the farmers, but was shocked to see lawlessness on the Republic Day when the country is supposed to be under a thick security blanket.
