Synopsis:
Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Mohalla Clinics were of no use in testing/treating the Corona pandemic, as it was without doctors, nurses, paramedics and infrastructure. He said that the Corona crisis bared the lie of the Arvind Government’s claim about Mohalla Clinics being the refuge of the poor for free treatment. He said that the Delhi Government’s U-Turn in providing free Covid vaccine to Delhiites was another instance of the Arvind Government’s double talk, and bolting away from reality, when the situation demanded a firm, solid stand by the Government, even if it involved heavy expenditure. He said that the Arvind Government should learn from the Congress example when it provided free polio (1995) shots to children and free vaccination against chickenpox (1951), which had earned worldwide acclaim.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ch. Anil Kumar said that the failure of the Arvind Government to create a robust health infrastructure to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic has once again been exposed with its much-touted Mohalla Clinics figuring nowhere in the 89 centres selected for the Covid vaccination drive from 16 January 2021 (40 Government and 49 private hospitals).

Ch. Anil Kumar said that Chief Minister Arvind, who remained shut in his house for the first two months after the first cases of Covid-19 pandemic were reported in the Capital, failed to take effective steps even when Delhi became a hot spot of the pandemic in the country, both in the spread of the virus and in deaths. He said that Arvind’s incompetence has come to the fore yet again, even in providing free Covid vaccine shots to the people of Delhi, as he has backed out after promising on January 2, 2021 that 2 crore Delhiits would be given free Covid vaccination. Ch Anil Kumar said that on January 9, 2021, the Arvind Government threw its hands up, saying that the Central Government would have to bear the cost of free Covid vaccination to Delhiites.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was decided at CM Arvind’s meeting with the Prime Minister on Monday (January 11, 2021) that the Central Government will bear the cost of free vaccination to 9 lakh health workers. Ch. Anil Kumar said that it was shocking that the Delhi Government has refused to bear the cost of free Corona vaccination to 95% people, and the normally voluble Chief Minister has now gone incognito, not even venturing to “tweet” his comments, for the past two days. Ch. Anil Kumar wondered if a comparatively affluent State like Delhi cannot provide free Covid vaccination, then which state in the country would?

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the media personnel, who were on the forefront of the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, should also be included in the first phase of the vaccination as they disseminate news at great risk to their lives, even from Covid hot spots, and many media persons died of Covid.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that even when the Covid-19 pandemic was peaking in the Capital, and people had lost their jobs and means of livelihood, and were in financial distress, the Arvind Government had no shame in looting the people, through costly tests and treatments, high-priced masks, and also in providing relief to the people, with the most deserving kept out of the free doles, as the Arvind Government played “politics” here too. He said that on the one hand, the Arvind Government claimed that it was short of funds on account of the pandemic, and on the other hand, it had a surplus of funds in squandering on CM Arvind’s personal publicity.

ARVIND GOVERNMENT DOES NOT HAVE A CLEAR STRATEGY TO ADDRESS THE BIRD FLUE, EITHER—CH. ANIL KUMAR

Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Arvind Government does not have a clear strategy to address the bird flue crisis either, other than culling a few ducks at Mayur Vihar. Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Arvind Government has proved, time and again, that it was incapable and incompetent of addressing challenging situations
