Synopsis:
Addressing a press conference at the DPCC office, Rajiv Bhawan here today, Shri Haroon Yusuf said that for the past six years, 11.49 lakh poor families have been waiting for their ration cards, and assuming that each family consists of five persons, then the Arvind Government has robbed 54 to 55 lakh people of ration goods. He said that poor people solely depend on grains, pulses and other essential items supplied through ration shops for their survival, and in the absence of ration cards, children from such families are suffering acute malnutrition. He said that the Arvind Government had no guilt feeling in squandering Rs 511.78 crore for publicity at the cost of the poor as most of them are out of jobs and unable to ply their trade due to the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

Former Food and Civil Supplies Minister in the Congress Government in Delhi Shri Haroon Yusuf warned the Arvind Government that if it does not provide ration cards to around 55 lakh people or give them free ration to tide over the Covid-19 pandemic crisis within one month, then the Congress workers will launch a massive campaign against the Government.

Shri Haroon Yusuf said that the lopsided priority of the Arvind Government was clearly evident from the fact that in the last 7 years, it shut down 461 ration shops but opened 450 liquor outlets! He said that the hurried re-opening of the liquor shops during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown had contributed in the spike of the infection in the Capital.

Shri Haroon Yusuf said that during the lockdown, Delhi Government’s “Janta Samvad Portal” had noted, that the Government had launched a scheme to supply free ration to only around 10 lakh people, whereas 54 lakh people had applied for free ration, which proves that the Government had denied regular ration to 80% non-ration card holders. He said that the Arvind Government was forced to give, that too one-time  free ration, to these applicants only after the Delhi Congress, under the leadership of DPCC president Ch. Anil Kumar, had put tremendous pressure on it.

Shri Haroon Yusuf said that the Congress Government had implemented the Food Security Act in Delhi in October, 2013 and following that around 73 lakh people started getting ration. But the Arvind Government could not provide ration to 55 lakh people whose applications have been accepted by the MLAs, volunteers and through on-line portal in the last six years. He said that it was shocking that Chief Minister Arvind remained at home when the food providers of the country, the farmers, observed a one-day Bharat Bandh, to protest against the three anti-farmer black Acts passed by the Modi Government at the Centre. He added that it was no wonder that such an insensitive Chief Minister has denied ration cards to around 55 lakh people in the Capital.
