Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ch. Anil Kumar said that instead of creating the necessary infrastructure at the ground level to tackle both the Corona pandemic and the ever-worsening toxic air, Chief Minister Arvind has been adopting half-baked, knee-jerk methods which could not prevent the rise of Covid infections and death rates, as well as checking air pollution.
The Arvind Government has completely flopped in every aspect of Governance —Ch. Anil Kumar added.
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Ch. Anil Kumar, expressing grave concern at the fast spike in the Covid-19 pandemic infection and death rates, and rising air pollution, said that the delayed intervention of the Union Home Ministry to contain the unchecked spread of the Coronavirus has proved yet again that the Arvind Government has been a total failure in arresting the Covid-19 pandemic and air pollution, which had crossed the dangerous mark a few days ago, and has stayed put there ever since.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that alarm bells had rung when Covid deaths rose in the Capital, as between November 1 and 15, there has been a 48 % rise in death rate—i.e. four Covid deaths per hour. He said that since October 10, as the case count rose, testing remained at the previous level or even lower, while there was need to increase testing at that point of time.
Now, after more than one month, the Government has felt the need to increase testing, which shows complete governance failure, which was a dangerous trend, as lesser tests put the Government in the dark about the actual spread of Corona cases. Ch. Anil Kumar demanded that if the test fee is reduced from the present Rs 2400 per test, then more and more people will undergo Covid tests, which help the Government determine the actual spread of the pandemic.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that Arvind’s Cabinet colleague, Health Minister Satyendra Jain, had made a reckless statement today that the “third wave of Corona has ended in Delhi” whereas the reality is that Covid-19 test positivity rate is still on the upswing, which gives a loud hint that the Arvind Government wants to get rid of the Corona pandemic crisis as soon as possible so that it can indulge in its favourite past time of publicity at taxpayers’ expense. He said that the remark by the AAP Minister is without any scientific backing, without understanding the ground reality, though we all want to get out of the clutch of the Corona pandemic as soon as possible.
Ch.
He said that CM Arvind’s “Yudh” against pollution was an utter failure, as posting Aam Aadmi Party workers at various pollution hot spots and traffic signals with placards carrying his photos, was not a solution to address air pollution. Ch. Anil Kumar said that the Arvind Government has suffered such a huge defeat on the Corona and pollution fronts that it has run out of excuses to justify its abject failures in every aspect of governance.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that there is a severe shortage of ICU beds for Covid as well as the general patients in the Capital. He said that amid massive spike in daily cases and deaths over the past two weeks, critical care facilities for Covid-19 patients are filling up fast, as 88% ICU beds with ventilators are occupied.
He said that the Union Home Ministry’s promise that upto 300 ICU beds will be made available at Army’s DRDO hospital is a late reaction. He said that instead of concentrating these beds at one hospital, thes should have been spread out in different hospitals across the Capital, which would have served more people from all strata.
Ch. Anil Kumar said that the air pollution reaching a record level this Deepawali was yet another ‘feather’ on CM Arvind’s crown, as in the past four years, air pollution broke the record of the previous year after every Deepawali celebration. He said that the Arvind Government’s attention has got diverted from good governance to cheap publicity, thus putting the lives of Delhiites in peril.
