Delhi — On the occasion of World Health Day, Hindu Rao Hospital sent out a strong and forward-looking message: one of expansion, modernization, and patient-centric reforms.
In an interaction, senior official Dr Anand Narnolia outlined an ambitious roadmap that blends legacy with innovation. He emphasized that the hospital is not only strengthening its core healthcare services but also embracing digital transformation to improve patient experience.
Digital Registration to Ease Patient Burden
In a major step towards modernization, the hospital is introducing an online registration system. Patients will be able to scan QR codes to register seamlessly, reducing the need to stand in long queues. The facility is being planned for every floor of the hospital and is currently under development.
Once operational, this system is expected to significantly cut waiting times and streamline patient flow—an important move for a high-footfall government hospital.

Robust Infrastructure, Growing Demand
With a capacity of 832 beds, the hospital continues to cater to thousands of patients daily. Despite heavy patient load, efforts are ongoing to improve OPD management and overall infrastructure.
All major departments are well-equipped, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive care under one roof.
Academic and Surgical Strength Expanding
Highlighting its growing academic role, Dr. Narnolia noted that the institution has expanded its teaching capacity from 60 to 150 seats. This positions the hospital as a key center for medical education in the capital.
On the clinical front, the hospital operates 14 operation theatre beds and performs six to eight gall bladder surgeries regularly. Despite the high demand, the waiting period for surgeries remains around one month—reflecting both pressure and efficient handling.
A 75-Year Legacy of Public Service
One of Delhi’s oldest civic hospitals under the municipal system, Hindu Rao Hospital recently celebrated its 75th foundation year. The milestone underscores its long-standing contribution to public healthcare and its trusted reputation among citizens.
Planning for the Next 20 Years
Looking ahead, the hospital is preparing for long-term expansion. With space constraints in the city, the administration is focusing on vertical growth—exploring high-rise structures and rooftop utilization.
Plans are also underway to construct a special block that will further enhance capacity and services in the coming decades.
Blending tradition with transformation, Hindu Rao Hospital is steadily evolving into a modern, efficient, and digitally enabled healthcare institution. Its focus on innovation, infrastructure, and patient convenience signals a promising future for one of Delhi’s most historic hospitals.
