New Delhi: In a decisive move to protect public safety and curb black marketing during the ongoing LPG shortage, Delhi Police has registered two separate cases against individuals involved in illegal LPG cylinder refilling and hoarding in East Delhi.
Officials said the action is part of a broader enforcement drive aimed at preventing dangerous and unlawful practices that could pose serious risks to citizens, especially at a time when cooking gas supply remains under pressure.
Illegal Refilling Busted in Gandhi Nagar
In the first case, a 55-year-old man was booked in the Gandhi Nagar area of East Delhi after police caught him allegedly transferring gas from domestic LPG cylinders into smaller cylinders without authorization.
According to police, the incident occurred on March 13 at around 10:30 PM, when Head Constable Rohit was on routine patrol in the area. During the patrol, he noticed suspicious activity inside a shop where a man was extracting LPG from a domestic cylinder and refilling smaller containers.
When questioned and asked to produce a valid license or permission, the individual reportedly failed to provide any legal documentation and continued the activity despite warnings. Police later identified the accused as a resident of Kartar Nagar. He was taken into custody and the recovered cylinders and equipment were seized for further investigation.
Shakarpur Case Registered After Viral Video
In another incident, Shakarpur Police registered an FIR after a video surfaced on social media, showing a man illegally refilling LPG cylinders inside a shop.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused did not possess any license or authorization to conduct LPG refilling operations. Authorities also noted that the activity was being carried out without proper safety measures, which could potentially lead to serious accidents.
Police Move to Curb Black Marketing During LPG Crisis
Officials stated that illegal LPG refilling and hoarding often increase during periods of supply shortage, with some individuals attempting to exploit the situation for financial gain through black marketing.
Delhi Police emphasized that strict action will continue against those involved in such illegal activities, as they not only violate the law but also endanger public safety due to the high risk of fire or explosion.
Public Safety Remains the Top Priority
Authorities have described the crackdown as a proactive administrative measure to maintain law and order and ensure fair availability of LPG cylinders to the public.
Delhi Police has also appealed to citizens to report any instances of illegal LPG refilling or black marketing, assuring that prompt action will be taken to prevent accidents and protect public interests.
