New Delhi: Preparations for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections have intensified as the Election Commission begins putting strict administrative measures in place to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
According to official sources, the Commission is planning to conduct the elections in two phases, with enhanced security arrangements and increased monitoring, especially in sensitive constituencies. As part of these measures, the Commission has indicated that immediate transfers of government officials will be restricted during the election period to prevent administrative disruption.
Strict Administrative Control to Ensure Smooth Voting
Election Commission officials believe that frequent or sudden transfers of officers during the election period could affect the stability of the administrative machinery, which is crucial for conducting peaceful and orderly polls. Therefore, the Commission has decided to place temporary restrictions on transfers of key officials involved in the election process.
Extra Security Deployment in Sensitive Areas
Sources said that additional central security forces will be deployed in sensitive and vulnerable regions across the state. The Commission is particularly focusing on areas where previous elections witnessed reports of tension, violence, or alleged booth capturing.
Enhanced Monitoring at Polling Stations
To maintain strict vigilance during the voting process, the Election Commission is planning several monitoring measures, including:
Webcasting and digital surveillance at sensitive polling booths
Strong security perimeters around polling stations
Deployment of central paramilitary forces in vulnerable constituencies
Close monitoring to prevent voter intimidation or electoral malpractice
Officials said these steps are aimed at preventing booth capturing, voter intimidation, and any form of election-related violence.
No Scope for External Interference
The Commission has also warned that anti-social elements or external influences will not be allowed to interfere in the electoral process under any circumstances. State authorities have been directed to maintain strict vigilance and coordinate closely with central forces.
Politically Sensitive Election
Political analysts note that West Bengal elections have historically been politically intense and sensitive, often witnessing strong contestation between major parties. In such a scenario, the Commission’s stricter administrative and security measures are being seen as a significant step toward ensuring peaceful and credible elections.
Sources indicate that the Election Commission may soon announce the detailed polling schedule and final security blueprint, after which the political campaign in the state is expected to gather further momentum.
