MCD’s High-Tech Initiative Aims to Curb Touts and Make Patient Registration Faster & Transparent
Special Correspondent: Arun Sharma, East Delhi | Dilshad Garden

In a significant step toward modernising public healthcare services and ensuring transparency, Swami Dayanand Hospital in Dilshad Garden has introduced a QR code–based OPD registration system. The initiative, launched under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), aims to eliminate long queues, reduce middlemen interference and simplify the registration process for patients.
With the new system in place, patients can now scan QR codes installed on the first and second floors of the hospital to receive a digital token number, enabling them to consult doctors without standing in long registration lines.

No More Long Queues for OPD Registration
The newly introduced digital system will significantly reduce waiting time for patients.
Key highlights of the initiative:
Instant OPD token through QR code scanning
Single registration valid for multiple departments
No need for separate slips for different departments
Digital display boards showing token numbers outside OPD rooms
This system will save time for patients and reduce congestion inside the hospital premises.
Strong Move to Eliminate Touts
Hospital authorities say one of the primary objectives of the initiative is to curb the activities of touts who often charge money from patients to speed up the OPD registration process.
With the QR-based system, patients will be able to register themselves directly, making the process more transparent and corruption-free.
Simple and User-Friendly Process
The registration process is designed to be quick and convenient.
Patients or their attendants can scan the QR code using apps such as Paytm, PhonePe, or any QR scanner.
Steps for registration:
Scan the QR code
Enter mobile number
Receive OTP
Enter OTP to generate digital token number
After receiving the token number, patients can inform the counter staff about their illness and department, and wait for their turn. Their token number will appear on digital display boards outside OPD rooms, indicating when they can meet the doctor.

Statement from the Medical Superintendent
Medical Superintendent Dr. Sunita Kujur said the new system is simple, transparent and designed to improve patient convenience.
According to Dr. Sunita Kujur, the primary goal of the hospital administration is to provide faster healthcare services while ensuring complete transparency in the OPD registration process.
She also clarified that traditional OPD card registration will continue for patients who prefer the conventional method.
Ayushman Cards to Be Issued at the Hospital
As part of expanding healthcare services, Swami Dayanand Hospital will also begin issuing Ayushman Cards, enabling economically weaker patients to access government health schemes and receive better treatment facilities.
Aligned with National and Delhi Government Health Vision
Hospital officials said the initiative reflects the digital healthcare vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the pro-health governance approach of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The move is being seen as a progressive step toward building transparent, patient-friendly and technology-driven public healthcare services.
Major Relief for Patients in East Delhi
Healthcare experts believe the new digital system will bring major relief to thousands of patients visiting the hospital every day.
By introducing QR-based OPD registration, tokenised consultation and digital displays, Swami Dayanand Hospital in Dilshad Garden is steadily evolving into a modern, efficient and patient-centric healthcare facility for East Delhi residents.
