Political tensions escalated in the national capital after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta mounted a direct attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, asserting that he “can never be proven innocent in the eyes of the people of Delhi.”
Her remarks, delivered at a public event, have triggered fresh political sparring in the Capital.
Allegations of Lack of Transparency
Without naming Kejriwal initially, Gupta took aim at the previous administration, alleging that Delhi had been pushed into “controversies and alleged scams” during its tenure.
She claimed that questions surrounding transparency in several schemes remain unanswered and that citizens are still awaiting accountability.
The Chief Minister also accused the former government of indulging in “politics of advertisements and promises,” contrasting it with her administration’s stated commitment to transparency and governance reforms.
“The People’s Court Is the Biggest Court”
In a pointed remark, Gupta said that while legal proceedings have their own place, in a democracy the “court of the people” holds ultimate authority.
According to her, Delhi’s electorate is closely observing political developments and will deliver its verdict at the appropriate time. She emphasized that her government is focused on development and clean governance.
AAP Hits Back
The Aam Aadmi Party dismissed the Chief Minister’s allegations as politically motivated. Party leaders accused the ruling establishment of resorting to personal attacks to divert attention from pressing governance issues.
Political Undercurrents Ahead of Elections
Political analysts believe the sharp exchange signals the beginning of an intense electoral narrative in Delhi. The emerging contest appears to be framed around development versus allegations, with both sides positioning themselves for public perception battles.
With rhetoric sharpening on both ends, observers expect the political temperature in the Capital to rise further in the coming weeks.
