A political controversy has erupted over the recent AI Summit held in the national capital, with statements by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensifying the debate.
Backing Youth Congress workers who protested against the summit, Gandhi said he was proud of the “young lions” who raised their voice against what he described as a policy of compromise. His remarks have since drawn strong reactions from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Arrests Spark Political Confrontation
Following the detention of several Youth Congress members by Delhi Police, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge condemned the action, alleging that the government was attempting to stifle dissent.
In a post on social media platform X, Gandhi stated, “Holding power accountable is not a crime, but a democratic duty.”
The Congress has framed the issue as one concerning democratic rights and freedom of expression.
BJP Calls Remarks ‘Irresponsible’
The BJP responded sharply, terming Gandhi’s language “irresponsible” and “inconsistent with democratic traditions.” Party spokespersons accused the Congress of politicizing a matter of national importance and spreading confusion over policy decisions linked to the AI Summit.
BJP leaders also rejected allegations directed at the Prime Minister, calling them baseless and politically motivated.
Issue Likely to Echo in Parliament
Political analysts believe the controversy could escalate further, both inside and outside Parliament, as the opposition prepares to question the government over the summit and related agreements.
What began as a protest linked to the AI Summit has now evolved into a broader political confrontation, setting the stage for a heated national debate in the days ahead.
