New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday described ‘Operation Sindoor’ as a manifestation of Lord Shiva’s “Rudra Sankalp” — symbolising unwavering resolve, protection and decisive strength. He asserted that India is not a nation driven by fear, but one guided by confidence, cultural consciousness and strategic clarity.
Addressing the 32nd Mahashivratri celebrations at the Isha Foundation in Coimbatore, the Defence Minister underlined that true national security extends beyond military might.
“Real Security Comes From Inner Strength”
Singh emphasised that security is not defined solely by weapons or resources, but by the inner confidence and cultural awareness of citizens.
“A society driven by fear can never remain secure. True strength lies in inner resolve and national consciousness,” he said.
Drawing a parallel with Lord Shiva’s dual role as protector and destroyer, Singh noted that the Indian Armed Forces embody a similar balance — patience and compassion in peace, decisive action in crisis. He highlighted that humanitarian assistance and firm military response are both integral to India’s strategic doctrine.
Cultural Power Alongside Military Strength
The Defence Minister stated that India’s real strength lies in its cultural unity and spiritual heritage, which the government is actively presenting on global platforms.
Referring to yoga as India’s timeless contribution to humanity, he said the world is increasingly embracing it in a new light. He further asserted that culture and science are not separate streams in India’s civilisational journey but complementary forces.
Citing achievements such as Chandrayaan-3, Mangalyaan, and Aditya-L1, Singh described them as modern expressions of India’s ancient scientific temperament.
Warning Against Blind Materialism
Expressing concern over what he termed the “blind race of materialism,” Singh cautioned that excessive focus on material gains weakens internal balance. Spiritual grounding, he argued, empowers individuals to serve society and the nation more effectively.
“Service to Humanity is Worship of Shiva”
The Defence Minister reiterated that service to humanity is the truest form of devotion to Lord Shiva. Highlighting the Centre’s initiatives over the past decade in education, healthcare and infrastructure, he described development projects in Varanasi, Ujjain, and Ayodhya as symbols of India’s cultural resurgence.
Strategic and Global Context
Observers note that Singh’s remarks come at a time when global discourse increasingly focuses on balancing security concerns with civilisational values. By invoking ‘Operation Sindoor’ in spiritual terms, India appears to be positioning its military capability alongside its cultural identity in the international arena.
The message, analysts suggest, is clear: India’s security doctrine is rooted not only in strategic strength but also in civilisational confidence.
