The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has achieved a significant milestone by treating over 4.84 million patients in its Out-Patient Department (OPD) within a single year, underscoring its position as the country’s premier public healthcare institution.

According to the latest annual figures, AIIMS recorded 48,43,572 OPD visits in 2024–25, reflecting a steady surge in patient inflow. The institute has also witnessed a notable rise in hospital admissions, with 3,61,236 patients admitted (IPD) during the same period.

Over the past two years, the growth trend has been particularly striking. While OPD attendance increased by 13.81%, inpatient admissions registered an even sharper rise of nearly 28.65%, highlighting growing public reliance on the institute for specialized and critical care.

In 2022–23, AIIMS had reported 2,80,770 IPD admissions, a number that has now climbed significantly. The addition of beds has also contributed to improved capacity, with the total bed strength reaching 3,657 in 2024–25.

Healthcare experts attribute this surge to AIIMS Delhi’s reputation for clinical excellence, affordability, and a strong work culture. Patients from across the country—particularly those from economically weaker sections—continue to view AIIMS as a beacon of hope for advanced and reliable medical treatment.

With nearly 22 AIIMS institutions now operational across India, the Delhi campus remains the flagship center, setting standards in patient care, medical education, and research.

The rising patient numbers not only reflect expanding healthcare needs but also reinforce AIIMS Delhi’s standing as the backbone of India’s public health system.
