On the occasion of the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi, an inspiring example of public service and women empowerment was witnessed in Tahirpur, East Delhi, where 200 underprivileged women were provided free LPG gas connections and stoves under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.

The programme was jointly organised by Chandrakala Indane and Purvanchal Vichar Manch, marking the day with a strong message of dignity, health and empowerment for women.

The event began with floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, offered by Shahdara MLA Sanjay Goyal, who inaugurated the distribution ceremony. Addressing the gathering, Goyal said,

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi envisions a nation where no woman is forced to cook in smoke-filled kitchens. The Ujjwala Yojana is a living example of this commitment.”

PM Modi’s Vision: Women Empowerment Begins from the Kitchen

MLA Sanjay Goyal highlighted that more than 10.37 crore women across the country have so far received free LPG connections under the Ujjwala scheme, calling it a historic achievement.

He emphasised that the scheme is not merely about providing gas connections, but about ensuring women’s health, dignity and self-reliance.

Under the Ujjwala Yojana, beneficiaries receive:
Free LPG gas connections
Subsidy on the first refill
Regular gas subsidy directly transferred to women’s bank accounts
These benefits, he said, have significantly reduced the financial burden on poor households.

Gandhian Ideals Reflected in Government Policy
In his introductory address, Dr. Rakesh Raman Jha, President of Purvanchal Vichar Manch and Proprietor of Chandrakala Indane, said that Mahatma Gandhi was not only a freedom fighter but also a symbol of social justice, women’s rights and upliftment of the marginalised.

“Providing clean cooking fuel to women through the Ujjwala Yojana reflects Gandhiji’s ideals of cleanliness, equality and human dignity,” Dr. Jha remarked, adding that the scheme has brought a revolutionary change in the kitchens of poor households.

Awareness about Delhi Government Schemes
MLA Sanjay Goyal also informed the gathering about various Delhi Government pension schemes for women and persons with disabilities, urging eligible beneficiaries to approach his office for assistance.
