On the occasion of the 77th Republic Day, the Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis (RBIPMT), widely known as Kingsway Chest Centre, functioning under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), organised a grand, disciplined and inspiring ceremony, reflecting the spirit of national unity, constitutional values and public service.


The programme began with a well-coordinated parade by security personnel, a salute to the National Flag, and a solemn tribute to the martyrs of India’s freedom struggle. Officers and staff reaffirmed their democratic commitment by taking the Voter’s Pledge.

The most inspiring moment of the ceremony came when senior pulmonologist Dr Anil Choudhry was conferred the Appreciation Award in recognition of his valuable, dedicated and patient-focused medical services. The honour was widely regarded as an acknowledgment of his consistent contribution towards strengthening public healthcare delivery, particularly in the fight against tuberculosis and MDR-TB.


Known for his exceptional compassion and commitment towards TB patients, Dr Anil Choudhry has gone beyond routine clinical treatment by integrating human dignity, counselling, nutritional support and empathetic care into medical practice. Under his guidance, treatment protocols evolved into a patient-centric healthcare system, benefiting thousands of vulnerable patients and restoring hope to countless families.


Strong Praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Vision on TB Elimination
While accepting the Appreciation Award, Dr Anil Choudhry openly praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting his serious, sensitive and proactive approach towards tackling tuberculosis.


“My service journey and professional thinking are deeply inspired by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’. Tuberculosis has been addressed not merely as a medical condition, but as a humanitarian challenge,” said Dr Anil Choudhry.


He further stated that the impact of the ‘TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ is clearly visible at the grassroots level. According to Dr Anil Choudhry, the
adequate availability of essential and modern TB medicines,
provision of nutritional support for patients, and
policies ensuring accessible, dignified and affordable treatment
demonstrate how Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown deep sensitivity, compassion and positive leadership towards TB patients across the country.


Dr Anil Choudhry emphasised that real transformation in healthcare becomes possible only when both the disease and the patient remain at the centre of policy-making.

People-Oriented Welfare Initiatives
Several public welfare activities were organised as part of the Republic Day celebrations, including:
Distribution of nutritional support kits to TB patients
Issuance of e-identification cards to eligible beneficiaries
An impactful street play to raise awareness on MDR-TB
X-ray screening for TB patients, conducted in collaboration with the Medanta Hospital Group
These initiatives highlighted the institute’s holistic, compassionate and socially responsible healthcare approach.


Dr Gurmeet Singh Honoured on Superannuation
The ceremony also witnessed an emotional moment when senior physician Dr Gurmeet Singh was honoured on his retirement, recognising his long-standing contribution to patient care. Sharing a heartfelt message, Dr Gurmeet Singh said:
“Patients are not merely medical cases; they come with families and hope. A doctor’s responsibility is to provide not only treatment, but also trust.”
