As winter tightens its grip on the capital, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken a decisive and deeply humane step to ensure that no homeless citizen is left exposed to the biting cold. In a move that reflects both administrative resolve and human empathy, the Delhi government has announced a significant expansion of night shelters across sensitive and high-risk areas of the city.


Acting on the Chief Minister’s clear directions under a comprehensive winter action plan, the government is not only increasing the capacity of existing night shelters but is also setting up temporary shelters in areas where the homeless population is high and the risk from extreme cold is most severe. The aim is unambiguous: no one in Delhi should be forced to spend a winter night under the open sky.


Officials said that all night shelters are being equipped with warm bedding, blankets, clean drinking water and basic medical facilities. Special night-time rescue teams have also been deployed, actively patrolling roads, pavements and public spaces to identify vulnerable individuals and bring them to safe shelters.


The Chief Minister has emphasized strict, round-the-clock monitoring of the entire operation. Concerned agencies have been given clear instructions that negligence will not be tolerated under any circumstances. In emergencies, immediate arrangements are being made to shift people to nearby shelters or hospitals.
