With the India AI Impact Summit 2026 set to bring global leaders, policymakers and technology experts to the national capital, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has emerged as a standout example of proactive, efficient and future-ready urban governance.
In a well-coordinated push, NDMC has launched an extensive citywide revamp focusing on infrastructure upgrades, intensive cleanliness drives, beautification of public spaces and enhanced operational preparedness. The objective is clear: to present New Delhi as a clean, efficient and globally competitive capital city.
Senior NDMC officials said repair and strengthening of roads and footpaths, improved street lighting, upgrading of signage and public amenities, and intensified sanitation measures are being undertaken on priority. As part of this effort, officials have inspected all 41 major arterial roads under NDMC’s jurisdiction and assigned clear responsibilities to departments to address gaps swiftly.
Special attention is being given to key corridors connecting the airport, diplomatic enclaves, five-star hotels and prominent public spaces. The work includes filling potholes, restoring damaged grills, repainting central verges, removing dark spots, and improving both road safety and visual appeal.
Scheduled from February 15 to 20, the India AI Impact Summit will culminate in a high-profile inaugural event at Bharat Mandapam on February 19. Anticipating the arrival of international delegates, NDMC has identified focus zones including Bharat Mandapam, heritage buildings, major roundabouts, gardens and iconic tourist destinations such as Connaught Place, India Gate, Lodhi Garden, Humayun’s Tomb and Dilli Haat.
The council has also directed its horticulture department to install flowering plants at prominent locations, while sculptures, fountains and public art installations are being refurbished. Garbage-vulnerable points are under close monitoring to ensure sustained cleanliness.
A week-long intensive deep-cleaning drive, ‘Operation Clean’, has been rolled out across all 14 NDMC circles, beginning with Connaught Place. Officials say the campaign reflects NDMC’s commitment not just to an event-specific makeover, but to long-term civic improvement.
Urban policy experts and residents alike have lauded NDMC’s meticulous planning and swift execution, noting that the initiatives will leave a lasting legacy of improved civic services well beyond the summit.
As the world turns its attention to New Delhi for the AI summit, NDMC’s efforts underline how strong municipal leadership and disciplined execution can transform a city’s global image—placing the capital firmly on the map as a modern, welcoming and well-managed metropolis.
