Move aimed at strengthening district-level healthcare delivery and administrative efficiency

In a significant administrative move to reinforce public healthcare governance, the Delhi government has appointed new Sub-Divisional Medical Officers (SDMOs) for all 13 districts of the capital, along with issuing fresh orders for the posting of officers and relocation of their offices.
According to an order issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the new arrangement will operate on an interim basis until the district-level offices are fully established under the revised administrative framework. The decision is expected to enhance on-ground monitoring, coordination and faster decision-making in the healthcare system.
District-Aligned Health Oversight
Under the new directive, SDMO offices will now function in line with Delhi’s restructured revenue districts, ensuring closer alignment between health administration and district governance. Officials said this would improve accountability and streamline the delivery of health services at the grassroots level.
New Office Locations Notified
The government has designated state-run dispensaries and healthcare facilities as SDMO offices across districts. Key locations include:
South East Delhi: Saket government dispensary
North Delhi: Gulabi Bagh dispensary
North West Delhi: Rohini Sector-13 dispensary
North East Delhi: Dilshad Garden administrative dispensary
East Delhi: Surajmal Vihar government dispensary
South Delhi: Begumpur (opposite Malviya Nagar) dispensary
West Delhi: Paschim Vihar government dispensary
Similar arrangements have been notified for the remaining districts to ensure seamless functioning.
Boost to Public Health Services
Health department officials said the reshuffle would lead to better supervision of hospitals and dispensaries, quicker administrative responses and improved coordination during public health emergencies.
The move underscores the Delhi government’s focus on decentralising healthcare administration and bringing decision-making closer to the people, with the larger goal of delivering efficient, accessible and responsive health services across the city.
