Bhartiya Jain Sangathan’s Three-Day Initiative to Transform Lives of Underprivileged Patients

In a major humanitarian initiative aimed at restoring dignity and confidence to the underprivileged, the Bhartiya Jain Sangathan (BJS) will organise a three-day free plastic surgery camp at Muni Mayaram Jain Hospital, Pitampura, beginning January 14. The camp is expected to benefit over 100 children and adults suffering from facial deformities who otherwise lack access to specialised and affordable medical care.
The initiative will provide completely free corrective surgeries for congenital and acquired facial conditions such as cleft lip and palate, squint, facial scars and skin patches—ailments that often lead to social stigma, emotional trauma and long-term psychological distress. The programme will begin with OPD consultations, medical examinations and laboratory tests on January 14, followed by surgeries and post-operative care over the next two days.
Calling the camp a mission of social transformation, Mr. Pradeep Jain Sancheti, Rashtriya Mantri, Bhartiya Jain Sangathan, said the effort goes beyond medical treatment. “These surgeries are instruments of change. They help restore self-confidence, dignity and hope among individuals who have faced marginalisation for years due to their appearance,” he said.
Founded in 1985 and headquartered in Pune, Bhartiya Jain Sangathan is a non-political, non-profit organisation with a nationwide footprint in healthcare, disaster relief, education and social development. Since 1993, BJS has been conducting free plastic surgery camps across India, having facilitated over three lakh surgeries, largely for underprivileged children. Since 2015, the organisation has also been empanelled with TISS under the AESDII framework as a pan-India grassroots implementing body.
Mr. Subhash Karan Bothra, Chairman, BJS, said the vision behind the programme is to create a sustainable model of humanitarian healthcare. “Every surgery represents not just medical success, but a renewed opportunity for education, employment and social inclusion,” he noted.
This will be the seventh major plastic surgery camp organised by BJS in Delhi. The surgeries will be conducted under the leadership of renowned US-based plastic surgeons Dr. Larry Weinstein and Dr. Whitney Pafford, in close collaboration with experienced Indian medical professionals. The hospital is fully equipped to ensure safe, high-quality surgical care.
Highlighting grassroots outreach, Mr. Subash Duggad, Seh Sanyojak, BJS, said volunteers identify patients from remote and rural areas where such specialised treatment is rarely available. “Our teams assist families with registration and logistics so that deserving patients can reach the camp in time,” he said.
Mr. Narendra Jain, Mahamantri, BJS, underlined the broader social impact, stating, “Facial deformities affect education, employment and mental health. Correcting them means correcting years of discrimination. This is nation-building through compassion.”
The Delhi Chapter of BJS has played a pivotal role in organising the camp. Mr. Kamal Jain Sethia, President, Delhi Chapter, said the local unit worked tirelessly to ensure seamless coordination, from patient outreach to post-surgery follow-up, ensuring world-class treatment without any financial burden.
Providing long-term guidance, Mr. Sanjay Suran, Margdarshak, BJS, said the organisation remains committed to sustainable impact. “When professional excellence meets compassion, lives are truly transformed,” he remarked.
Patients from across India can register in advance through the dedicated helpline 902433322. Adding significance to the event, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is expected to visit the hospital on January 14, the opening day of the camp.
As preparations intensify, the initiative stands as a powerful reminder that access to quality healthcare should never be determined by economic status—offering not just surgery, but renewed confidence, dignity and hope.
