India Post is moving forward with the pace of New India driven by digital mindset, modern facilities, and youthful energy. Moving beyond traditional postal services, Post Offices are now being transformed into smart and modern service centres for the N-GEN (Next GEN). This initiative, guided by the vision of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Communications, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, aims to re-imagine Post Offices as vibrant, student-centric, technology-enabled spaces. In line with this initiative, Gujarat’s second and Ahmedabad’s first N-GEN (Next GEN) theme-based, revamped IIM Post Office was inaugurated on 2nd January 2026 by the Chief Postmaster General, Gujarat Circle Shri Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar, Director IIM Ahmedabad Prof. Bharat Bhasker and Postmaster General, North Gujarat Region Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav.
On this occasion, Chief Postmaster General Shri Ganesh V. Sawaleshwarkar said that IIM Ahmedabad Post Office has been redesigned in accordance with the lifestyle, interests, and expectations of the new generation (N-GEN), resulting in its evolution into a vibrant hangout-cum-service centre. With a cool, attractive, and youth-centric look and feel, this N-GEN Post Office represents a transformative leap in the citizen service delivery, specially developed with students, youth, and digital natives in mind.
Director, IIM Ahmedabad Prof. Bharat Bhasker appreciated the Department of Posts for this N-GEN Post Office initiative, describing it as a visionary and timely step. He expressed hope that students of IIM Ahmedabad would benefit from this modern and technology-enabled Post Office and actively utilize the services offered by the Department of Posts. He also appreciated the active participation of IIM Ahmedabad students in designing the IIM Post Office as Ahmedabad’s first N-GEN themed revamped Post Office.
Postmaster General Shri Krishna Kumar Yadav said that this youth-centric N-GEN Post Office will provide modern facilities, including Wi-Fi, cafeteria, mini library, digital payments through POS/QR code, youth-centric comfortable seating space, special 10% discount on Speed Post and Parcel services for students, Gyan Post, Parcel Packaging Services, Aadhaar services, Philately, Post Office Savings Schemes, Postal Life Insurance, and financial services such as IPPB. In addition, indoor games facilities have also been provided to encourage interaction and recreation among IIM students.
IIM students were also felicitated for their contribution in designing Ahmedabad’s first N-GEN theme-based, revamped IIM Post Office. This unique Post Office has been co-created by IIM Ahmedabad students in collaboration with India Post, following the philosophy of ‘Of the students, by the students, for the students,’ beautifully blending local culture, youthful creativity, and modern digital services.
It is noteworthy that Gujarat’s first N-Gen themed revamped Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar Post Office was inaugurated on 5 December 2025. This transformation is part of a national initiative covering Revamp of 46 existing Post Offices located within educational campuses. In addition, 54 more Post Offices will be included in this ambitious programme in this new year. Through digital facilities, innovation, and an engaging environment, these Post Offices aim to connect youth with postal services, making them more accessible, seamless, and relevant. The initiative seeks to establish a more direct, meaningful, and sustainable engagement with the new generation.
