
Mumbai (Ms Aditi Karan Samarth) : The Pune International Film Festival (PIFF), to be held from January 15 to 22, 2026. The 24th edition of PIFF offers the opportunity to watch as many as nine films that have made it to the Oscar’s list. Four of these films are also on the Golden Globe Awards’ list.
From which three films are currently making waves worldwide – ‘Sentimental Value’, ‘Sirât’, and ‘It Was Just an Accident’ – along with five other films, will be screened in the Global Cinema section. ‘All That’s Left of You’ will be screened in the World Cinema Competition section.
‘All That’s Left of You’ (Germany, Cyprus, Palestine, Jordan, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Qatar), directed by Palestinian-American director Cherien Dabis, was recently included in the initial shortlisting for the Oscar’s International Feature Film Award. Cherien Dabis’s film ‘Amreeka’ had previously won the FIPRESCI award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.
‘Sentimental Value’, a critically acclaimed film of 2025, is directed by Joachim Trier. It stars Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Elle Fanning. The film is based on the broken relationship between a famous director and his two estranged daughters. The film had its world premiere in the main competition of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and won the Grand Prix award. It has been shortlisted as the Norwegian entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy (Oscar) Awards. The film is also on the Golden Globe awards shortlist.
‘Sirât’ is a 2025 film directed by Oliver Laxe. This film tells the story of a father searching for his missing daughter and a group of rave partygoers in the desert of southern Morocco. The film had its world premiere on May 15, 2025, in the main competition of the 78th Cannes Film Festival, where it received the Jury Prize. At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Score, and at the 98th Academy Awards, it was nominated for the Best International Feature Film.
‘It Was Just an Accident’ is a thriller film written and directed by Jafar Panahi. The film is a co-production between Iran, France, and Luxembourg. It had its world premiere in the main competition of the 78th Cannes Film Festival in May 2025 and won the Palme d’Or award. At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, it became the first Iranian film to be nominated for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, and was also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film. At the 98th Academy Awards, the film was shortlisted as the French entry for Best International Feature Film.
These films can be seen at ‘PIFF’, which will be held from 15th to 22nd January, 2026. In addition, ‘Sound of Falling’, a film directed by Mascha Schilinski, and ‘Cutting Through Rocks’, a documentary directed by Sara Khaki, Mohammadreza Eyni, will also be screened. ‘The President’s Cake’, a film directed by Hasan Hadi, ‘Late Shift’, a film directed by Petra Biondina Volpe, and ‘No Other Choice’, a Korean satirical black comedy thriller film directed by Park Chan-wook, are on the Oscar list and will be screened at PIFF. ‘No Other Choice’ has also been nominated for the Golden Globe Awards.
The 24th Pune International Film Festival (PIFF) 2026, jointly organized by the Pune Film Foundation, the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, and Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari, Mumbai, is being held from January 15 to 22, 2026, across 10 screens in Pune, and online registration has begun on the website http://www.piffindia.com informed by the organiser.
