New Delhi/Tahirpur | Report: Arun Sharma

On the occasion of the 101st birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna, former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, an inspiring programme focused on women empowerment and social welfare was organised in the Tahirpur area. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 140 needy women were provided free LPG gas connections along with stoves, regulators and pipes, gifting them smoke-free kitchens. The programme was jointly organised by Chandrakala Indane and Purvanchal Vichar Manch, reflecting Atal Ji’s vision of “development reaching the last person in the queue.”

Carrying Forward Atal Ji’s Ideals
Addressing the gathering, chief guest Shahdara MLA Sanjay Goyal said that Atal Bihari Vajpayee always worked for the empowerment of the weaker sections of society.“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is carrying forward the same ideals through the Ujjwala Scheme, bringing dignity, health and convenience into the lives of poor women. This scheme is not just about gas connections, but about igniting the flame of self-respect in women’s lives,” he said.He added that the use of clean energy not only protects women from smoke-related diseases but also plays a vital role in environmental conservation.

Ujjwala Scheme Reaches Over 100 Million Women
Dr. Rakesh Raman Jha, Proprietor of Chandrakala Indane, informed that since its launch in 2016, the Ujjwala Scheme has turned into a social revolution.“So far, more than 103.3 million women across the country have received free LPG connections. Under PMUY-3, an additional 3.5 million women will also be covered,” he said. He highlighted that smoke-free kitchens are safeguarding women’s health while reducing dependence on firewood and cow dung, thereby helping curb deforestation and maintain ecological balance.

Emphasis on Safe Usage
Special guest Shyam Sundar Kaushik, retired ACP of Delhi Police, stressed the importance of safety while using LPG. “While LPG is a great convenience, safety is paramount. Proper use of cylinders, stoves and regulators can prevent accidents. Awareness is the key to safety,” he said.
