Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta sent out a strong message on healthcare governance during an inspection of the Rajiv Gandhi Super Specialty Hospital in Tahirpur, East Delhi, making it clear that public health services cannot be compromised under any circumstances.

During her visit, the Chief Minister inspected the OPD block, Cath Lab and other key departments, and interacted directly with patients and their attendants to assess the quality of medical services and the difficulties they were facing.

The inspection revealed that the super specialty hospital was lacking basic diagnostic facilities such as ultrasound and MRI, triggering a sharp response from the Chief Minister. Questioning officials, she asked how a hospital of such stature could function without essential diagnostic services.

Hospital authorities informed the Chief Minister that the ultrasound machine was over 10 years old and no longer functional, and that the matter had already been reported to the concerned department. Dissatisfied with the delay, the Chief Minister immediately summoned senior officials and issued on-the-spot directions for urgent resolution of the problem.

When informed that a meeting on the issue had been scheduled for the same day, the Chief Minister expressed strong displeasure, stating that such reactive decision-making was unacceptable.
“Just because I am visiting the hospital today, a meeting has been called. This will not work. Any negligence in public healthcare will not be tolerated,” she said.

Reiterating the government’s commitment inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the Chief Minister said that “Healthy Delhi, Clean Delhi and Beautiful Delhi” remains the government’s top priority.
“A strong nation is built on healthy citizens. There will be zero compromise at any level when it comes to healthcare,” she asserted.

The Chief Minister directed all senior officials to ensure that patients do not face any inconvenience during treatment and that all pending issues are addressed without delay. Shahdara MLA Sanjay Goyal, who was present during the inspection, highlighted the need for strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the region and offered key inputs. The Chief Minister acknowledged his proactive role, stating that effective healthcare delivery on the ground is possible only with active cooperation from public representatives.

Hospital Director Dr Vatsala Agrawal, along with Dr Akhilesh Verma, Dr Vikas Dogra, Dr Mona, Dr Chhavi Gupta, local councillor Veer Singh Pawar, BJP district president Master Vinod, Seemapuri assembly candidate Rinku Didi, Dilshad Garden Mandal vice-president Deepak Sagar, BJP youth leader Shanky Khurana, Virendra, and former Mahila Morcha district general secretary Seema Gupta, among other officials and public representatives, were present during the visit.

The Chief Minister’s inspection is being seen as a decisive step towards fixing gaps in Delhi’s healthcare system, sending a clear signal that any lapse in public health services will invite strict accountability.
